View Full Version : Server kicking for the dead

As I've said many times, I don't play online because people act like immortal 'kill-a-matic' gods instead of real life pilots trying to get home alive.

I think that full real servers which run historical missions should impose 1/2 hour kicking for those who are KIA.

That's the only way to give virtual pilots authentic fear of death, so we could have no more against-all-odds suicidal engagements, endless dogfights with guys that come back again and again even if they cannot win and have a tortured mount, people crossing your line of fire to steal kills or chasing diving planes to the ground -when they know they'll lose energy and won't recover it in time to get back to combat, and every kind of 'hooray-hooray-im-a-machine' attitudes which would lead to death or losing the plane in real life, if they cared.

So, let virtual pilots scare... and I'll fly cover for them.

Not that i have anything against going hell-for-leather trying to get a kill whilst going out on the finnish map with 25% fuel in my 109 cos I have no intention of coming back alive,....... I think that it would be an interesting concept to try out your idea Dux......is it possible?

Half an hour?

LOL, you'd be very lonely in that server.

We fly to die for action, not realizm.
Some of us are only able to fly for half an hour maybe an hour a night. I dont have 6 hours to make 8 runs at an enemy base just to play this fine game. 'gah-hame'
No flame, dont see it happening in this century.
Set all your AI to ace and immerse.

Interesting idea considering most times I join a DF server for a half hour or so of flying, I get vulched or attempted to be vulched as I enter my aircraft as most airfields are under attack. I usually try to pick a field further away from the action but that doesn't work a lot of times either as it gets to be really free pickings for the vulcher there. Guess I might as well not even bother to try to fly in DF server if that would be implemented. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If aaa is suggested for protection, I see planes on fire all the time flying for five to ten minutes still trying to vulch airfields.

Fbdaemon does have a DeathKick function that allows the host to kick/ban a player for specified amount of time if too many deaths happen within a duration you set.

I've never, and have no intention of implementing that, but I sure wish the developers could implement a spectator mode for dead pilots!

This would be kind of neat. I'll pass it on. Although, I don't think this is possible if externals are off.

I too would like to see more "self-preservation" even in DF servers. There would also be less of the "follow them all the way home and NAIL'em when they start their landing approach." This one fact, I think, has something to do with the kill-or-be-killed mentality. Many pilots won't disengage because even if they try they're followed like a starving lion after a wounded gazelle.

Most RL engagements were ended once one of the adversaries dove out or tried to break off the engagement.

You may be chasing a paper tiger here, but it would be cool to see more pilots implement some real survival skills.

Of course, I don't mean this for DF action-plenty servers, but for those who want to implement historically accurate flying and fighting.

I'd like to see 'real' pass-on engagements, less individualistic pilots with the philosophy 'go for the kill at any cost' and more tactical, team cooperative guys who think 'go for the kill and live to claim it at home'.

DFs are just for fun, but in historical-like missions, I feel more immersion if I fear for death and look for the chance and advantage instead of running for blood.

Agreed Dux.

There have been times I've flown with the squad in coops and felt much anxiety to "not die". I greatly enjoyed it and also felt a sense of accomplishment to get back home, whether I got any kills or not.

I try to still carry some of that attitude into DF servers although it's more difficult. The addition of FBDaemon and the K/D ratio stat helped a bit and hopefully more will take it to heart.

you'll never get that type of immersion in DF servers due to the culture of the df environment. even those df severs that reset based on which sides loses 'x' number of pilots first don't foster the types of environments you guys are dreaming of (ie pilots care more about RTBing than racking up kills). Sure it would be nice but most df servers regardless of difficulty settings are about mixing it up Doom style. Those folks that do care for immersion flying will leave the df server and join a coop mission that's part of a campaign where player stats are reset on death (ie 'dead-is-dead'). When you got a pilot persona racking up sorties and their stats are reset on death - believe me, you'll fly missions with a different level of vigilance you'll never experience in a quake df server. it's just the way it is. if you boot a player from a df server because he died, he'll just go to another server and he may or may not return. the df server that kicks upon death will just turn into a king of the hill or last man standing sort of arena. Cool but wont' foster the type of environment where pilots place survival above all other things.

FBOW (http://www.fbow.de) does have a 30 minute deathkick and the effect it has had on my squad's teamwork is amazing. You really do lose your wingman if you don't work together. You don't take as many chances and value your 'life'.

Some of us do like this added bit of 'realism'.

I like the idea. You get this with online wars etc. But to have a regular DF server set up this way I think would be great for squads who fly online wars. Good practice.

Great idea even in Df servers, if apllied it would encouraged especially bomber pilots, because there is often some a**** who ramm into them being not able to shot tehm down in regular way.

Altitude, speed, manoeuvre and.... CRASH!

roger that. stand by...soon =Elite= will do just that!

Now though, you might occasionally find AdiGalland hosting a DF with a 5 minute deathkick.

No, host should be a 'server' only.
