Haven't seen this asked, so I'm asking. Probably not that important but you never know.

Since there's only 5 slots for answers I had to leave out a few (ISDN,Satellite, etc) but I tryed to put in the most popular for home use.

Q: How do you connect to the net?

A: If you don't know by now, I'm not going to explain it!

That's what I thought when I first saw the topic heading. Oh, and I use cable.

Just wondering how many are still behind the times or too poor/cheap to upgrade to the fastest available.

How do I connect to the net? I don't, but my computer is connected to it. I started to call the post 'How fast do you connect to the net?' but the speed differences vary widly on each kind of hookup. Mine's connected w/56k but I only get 40k out of it(probably has to do with the distance from my ISP).

Where is the option for none?
Maybe I should start a poll that says 'Do you connect to the internet?" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Living in South Africa which has a complete telecommunications monopoly, it's not worth the cash you need to fork out to connect to the net.
i.e ADSL is over R1000 a month - that translates to $153.

Well, even that question is almost null, as I guess you could say that I "connect" to the internet, but its more like I look at it behind a glass wall which sometimes thats saying to much. I'm stuck with a dial-up connection that averages about 16-19kps! I'm in Hell, and for a gamer, this is the worst of torture!

FTTP far beats them all. I wish I was in Texas. Verizon is continuing to add lines for subscribers to connect to their service. 15 to 35 meg per second they are boasting. Sure wish I had that kind of connection.

For now Im on 56k/cable depending if cable goes down in my area due to poor ISP techs. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Forgot to mention--

FTTP- Fiber to the premis.

(fiber optic connection that directly connects you to the verizon server bypassing traditional switches commonly used by ADSL/DSL/or T1 networks)

As close to the internet you can get...FTTP! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

None? Of course I didn't include that one since you've got to be on it to be here!
You must be at a friend/relatives or library maybe? So Sorry!

What a pitty almost no one tells their ADSL or CABLE speed. Also the poll assumes only telephone modem accounts have variations in speed :-(

I have cable with 1536/192 Kbit/s

???? to cheap or poor ??? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif You should know that the fastest connections cost hundreds of euros/dollars a month. I just think it is obvious that not everybody is willing to spend that kind of money ? Also most people do not need the fastes connection that is available !

I'll bet you also do not have the fastest connection that is available http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Actually, I'm at the office http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Which of course limits me in the time spent on the net http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
However, at home it's not worth it in my country. Cable/DSL is to expensive, wereas modem connections require you to reconnect more often in one evening than a teenage girl calls her friends in one month http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

I guess you haven't the time to read through the posts on this thread or you don't understand what you do read.

As to 'assumes only telephone modem accounts have variations in speed' - As I said above, 'the speed differences vary widly on each kind of hookup'- note the word 'each'

As to 'the fastest connections cost hundreds of euros/dollars a month'- maybe where you live (I see you have cable so you're spending hundreds?), where I live it's about $50/mo, but I'm too cheap/poor to afford it right now.

As to 'I'll bet you also do not have the fastest connection that is available http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif' - again if you would PLEASE 'look before you leap', 'Mine's connected w/56k but I only get 40k' is what was posted.
So here's a smilie for you:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/hauitsme/flowers.gif

My little "Hick Town" only upgraded to ADSL/Cable/Wireless at the begining of this yr, so im lucky enough to be one of the "L33T" - If only on the "Silver" package which connnects at 512/256, but thats more than enough to "Game" on, but one really needs at least 1MB to "Host" a session with more than 10 players connected.

I got a DSL 8mbit/1mbit connection. For a cost of about 35-36 Euros/month. And even worse; my brother's got the same ISP but with 12mbit/9mbit instead. For that same price... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There is just no place like Sweden.
