I read where Kh'tie said there would be three DVDs, two for the game itself and one for bonus material and "localization". Ok, I understand bonus material. But what the heck is this "localization" thing?

"Localization" is just a fancy word for translation.

It's all the languages that come with it. If you want the game to be in French or German, etc., you would install that language on top of your game.

I wanna hear Achenar scream in Japanese! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I'm curious what the bonus section will include.

Woah three DVD's, getting up there! A DVD with bonus material too! (albeit all the language data would probably take up a load) I can see why they don't want to release it on up to 20 CDs! But if they realeased it on 9, boy would some people miss out (I suppose they would at least have a choice though)

I guess most other games are released as separate versons for separate languages rather than one for all. Perhaps the CD version would have to be localized, quite a bit more work. The folks at Ubi may be on to something here though, I might be able to catch up on my French a little! Another level of replayability? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Personally, I think it's great. After all, not everybody in the US has English as their first language, nor does everybody in France have French. And I've heard a lot of Europeans say that they prefer to play games in English, because they've gotten used to "game English" and the same expressions sound stupid in German, Dutch or whatever http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

This way everybody can play in whichever language they prefer.

Thanks for the heads-up! This is really cool. I'm in agreement with Matt, this will be a great way to enjoy the game and practice another language. I use Spanish only occasionally and would be interested to see how this game plays from a 'south of the border' perspective.

Lol corona!
Did you guys buy the Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition?

The Myst III game that came with that has multiple languages, including speech.
Yah Atrus is funny (I only tried French, since you have to reinstall the whole game to change languages).

Wonder if anyone else would think it would be neat if on of the localization languages available on the third DVD was D'ni.

Just a thought I had this morning while driving to work.

Could be interesting.

There's a thing I dont understand (correct me if I'm wrong):

If the game is in DVD format, we of course need a DVD program/Drive/decoder etc. But will the game be actually played in a DVD player, or do you just need the DVD decoding stuff to play it like a normal game???

Coronagold

You want a DVD player for a PC. A DVD TV player will not play it.

No, I mean: How do we play the game on the pc? Like a normal game or in a DVD-player program?

You don't need any of the decoders used for playing video DVDs on a PC. All you need is the DVD drive and the operating system's normal drivers. It will work just like a software CD -- put it in the drive and run the setup program. You can think of a software DVD as being a "high density software CD". You only need special player software for video DVDs or music CDs.

Sigh. There are 2 myst games coming out this year. Each of them has an age we desperately want to see but probably wont (but there's an outside chance). Oooooohhh!

D'ni as a language - actually I was thinking about that too!
Did anyone play the original Dune game, on the CD version? (Absolutely BRILLIANT game, never been anything like it!)
Well the CD version has many languages - English, French, Italian, Dutch and FREMEN??!!? Yep! (Well its not dubbed into Fremen, but at least they have subtitles!)

So I think it'd be quite funny to translate it into D'ni but probably won't be worth it - it would take a long time and everyone would play it for a bit then switch to english after the novelty wore off.
(Pssst - just do the first age in D'ni and drop back into english. Nobody will notice http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif)

Oh also I'd just like to say that I'm really excited about the 3rd DVD. Hopefully it'll have a Making Of so we wont need to wait for the 20th Anniversary Collection (although I'll buy that - yes, "Myst", "Riven", "Exile", "Uru: Complete Chronicles", "Revelation", "Releeshahn" and "Myst VI: The Return of Gehn". Oh and "Uru 2: Noloben").

And I want the Making Of to FINALLY be on DVD-Video format so you can watch it on your TV.

Myst Obsession (http://www.mystobsession.com/?module=news) has exciting news about a "collector's edition". I'd post it here but the board isn't letting me.

I tell you what, i loved all the graphics and the unusual worlds in D'ni would love to play just the (pictures)or wall papers on a big screen TV during a get together, they are awesome and the colors wow.Almost like a virtual reality thing.

I saw some Dreamforge pics & all I gotta say is thank God they dumped that idea for what Revelation is now. That would've been so cheesy. I would've been put off from all future Myst games had that been published.

Yesterday I email Ubi and ask them, here what they said:

quote:
Regretfully, at the moment the special edition of Myst IV is only available in Europe and we do not know if a North American release date is scheduled. We invite you to check back with the store from time to time for more information as if becomes available.

I think there will be one since they was one for almost every myst game, take a look at myst III: Exile, it's an execlent collectors edition

NOTE to developpers: DON'T DO DUTCH translations, or at least have the english as a default choice! As said before, dutch / belgian people DO NOT like those translations. Like Peter M's Black & White game. The translation was horrible!

Ok, there are people that perhaps like to have dutch translations because they don't understand a word english, but I (and a lot of others) prefer english (in games) above any other language (although I'm belgian)

At least give us a choice to choose! YEs I beg you guys http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Umm dude it is too big for one DVD.

If you want entire PC games on one DVD see Myst 10th Anniversary DVD Edition w/ Myst, Riven and Exile each on a single DVD.
