I tried over & over to do that maneuver back when the Thunderbird add-on came out for Janes USAF and I kept stalling into the runway too...

A few years back I saw a P-38 in england do a similar manoevre unfortunately the pilot did not have the benefit of an ejection seat(A very sad day) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
