Hehe. I was in a dogfight mission with a couple ships as the allied target, with the axis set to defend them. I was having no luck with P-38's and IL-2s because they were both battleships and there was little teamwork going on, and a lone, slow plane didn't stand a chance against that AAA. So I took the D-27, with 1x1000, 2x500, 6x2.5" rockets, 25% fuel.

I tried to take off and failed miserably. I taxied to the end of the runway, firewalled the throttle, and got my wheels off the ground. But there was a mountain in front of me and I crashed into it, despite my best efforts. Then I rolled all the way to the other end of the runway. There was a sharp drop off after the runway. I made it up, but I stalled out and died. On my fourth (!) try, I got airborn, and dropped three bombs into a ship from dead above it doing 700+ km/h. Good kill.

I fired my 6 rockets at the other ship, and then a teammate sank it with a torpedo. It was fun. I can't imagine flying a P-47 with 2 1000 pounders AND a fuel tank and full fuel. Scary.

Murphy's Laws of Combat clearly state:

Anyone remember a funny movie that was made by one of our forum members about a motorcycle? William Tell Overture, I think, played during the movie, and the little bike was bombed, strafed, and chased by tanks, surviving every attempt to stop him. I think it was called "The Messenger", and a sequel was made as well. One of the funniest FB movies ever.

There's a great reference to "The Messenger" in Extreme_One's "Battle Over Britain" campaign. Made me laugh quite a bit.

I read an account by an Eagle squadron member that had just been coverted from Spits to the P47 and complained that the only way to take evasive action was to "undo the straps and run around the cockpit" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
