In a time where we are re-inventing and re-examining the franchise, I thought it prudent to talk a little about transportation.

In many open world games, the use of transportation is often required to help negate the sheer amount of time it often takes you to travel between objectives. In most real world based games these often take the form of cars. Assassin's Creed is no different, where we originally started out with horses as transportation, before moving to ships, and finally carriages.

With the series evidently heading further back in time, the options for transportation diminish once more. The natural response would be that as we had a horse whistle in previous games, this is what we will likely end up with. However, I offer an alternative suggestion. What of the illustrious camel?

With oft reported rumours of going to Egypt, Greece, and even Ancient Rome - these are all great civilizations that have used the camel. Even the First Civilization utilised them, so they must have known of the benefits.

Camels are very hardy creatures, whom can actually go without water and walk for very extended periods in extreme heat. They even produce milk which can be used for sustenance should you be completely cutoff from food sources - though I'd hope it would be your last resort. If we are to explore deserts or harsh terrain, the humble camel seems a safer bet than a horse. Now I know what you are thinking - they walk too slow!

Well, generally you see that because the camels are laden with weight. However, in parts of the Middle East and Africa there is actually professional camel racing. Whilst not as quick as a horse, they are still usually able to stride at 20 - 25 mph comfortably, and even in excess of 40mph in sprints. Whats more, they are acknowledged to outpace a horse on uneven ground, such as sand. (I google checked all this, trust me)

Ok, how about this then. Can you see the Assassin in the below image?

Exactly. No! You can take your haystack with you! Make your Leap of Faith more mobile! Hidden assassinations on the move! With all of the outfits our dear Assassin protagonists carry around, they need somewhere to store all these things after all.

If all else fails, there is one more special ability you can call upon in order to hide in plain sight...

Go for the eyes boo!

The Witcher series may have its famous humble horse Roach, but I say its time Assassin's Creed embraced Colin the Camel - the transportation method of choice for all ancient assassins.

Who is with me?

I'm with you, sorrosis.

Reading this made me remember a very good movie with the main hero riding a camel, with the story in ancient time. He is riding a camel in the video at 0 : 56.

Also, he whistle to call it.

Finnaly, why not let the camel tranport everything we don't need to carry, but have anyway. Like weapons or food. ^-^

I am not sure but I think in AC Brotherhood there were haystacks moving by a horse...
Like in the end of this video below from the Liquid Gold Templar Lair mission (https://youtu.be/HjFFMUGEfik?t=606)

I am not sure, at my age, that I should be laughing so much at the image of an Assassin hiding in a portable, camel-conveyed haystack! :-D

Actually, this was the only time in this game, but I'm pretty sure horse were tranporting hayball in ac iii. There was actualy at least 1 mission with Haytam where we could spy a conversation that way while the one you're talking about is only there to show how Ezio returned to rome. It's from 13 : 51 to 15 : 00.

Haha portable haystack! Can vision the assassin, after synching a view point, whistle for his trusty camel who slowly comes trotting loaded with hay :D.

On a side note I hope the animals get names/personalities in this one. Prefer Epona over the generic horses in AC3. Maybe we can have an eagle, a horse and a camel?

Oh yeah the classic mission with the objective: "do not hide in the hay cart (...)", which after a discrete loadscrene spawns you in the hay cart....

I don't really see a point in giving our horse a name if it doesn't also have a personality. Not like Epona has ever been much of a character.

Guard: Hmmmmm... why is that camel inching closer and closer every time I turn my back. Oh well.

Portable Haystacks sound awesome, but (and I know logic should stay out of the realm of Leaps of Faith) I think a haystack that an Assassin would jump off into and land at terminal velocity would be the literal straw that broke that camel's back. :p

Ahaha... well played! I missed a genuinely good gag there. ;)
