Ok folks, im going to be blunt and short...

Ive left this forum before becuase of the same reasons.

The people here seem to grow more immature by the day. Not everyone, but most of you. Nobody here seems to respect the mods, and the only mods who do anything are Shoeless, Sangsta and Skulls. The other mod seems to contribute to the spam more often than put an end to it.

By spam, i mean stuff that has nothing to do with the thread topic, 3 word replies, and personal conversations. Any mushy personal stuff should be kept to PM. If you want to chit chat, use AIM or PM, dont hijack a useful thread and post all your jibberish web lingo and he says she says bullsheet. There is a private messanger provided on this forum, and i thought someone started a "gab thread" chit chat should be kept in their respective places if it does not pertain to the thread topic.

Im also going to second sangsta's notion of ending the respect list thing... the first two were cool. Now it does nothing but starts arguments and makes the pages longer to load. Those who are respected by me, they know who they are, then there are those who do nothing but hijack other people's threads with worthless hubabub about nothing...i swear it makes me dumber...sure, half of you guys are only 13, but at least try to make your posts mature.

Another issue i feel that needs to be addressed is the growing use of internet lingo, sure LOL and OMG and ROFL are fine, but when i start seeing "code words" and stuff with %&#*$#@ in it, if your too lazy to write out the whole words, than honestly what your writing probably isnt worth taking the time to read.

Also again there are a few people here who i suspect are using multiple accounts...if its true, then they should face consequence. Why the mods tolerate numerous accounts is beyond me.

Yes, this may be harsh, but its meant to be harsh.

Honestly i think this forum was much better before a handful of people showed up. Now every thread gets hijacked, locked because of cussing or endless rambling, or the useful posts get ignored or overshadowed by the pointless ones.

Thank you for reading this read, and please just take a minute to ponder: is asking for a mature, organized and courteous community really that much?

I agree with usa on a number of points
(1) pages load slower. One day it would take a sec to load now it takes a couple
(2)hi-jacking true threads are getting hijacked like crazy. and yes usa I created a gab thread but if didn't seem to work /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif go figure
what I'm not sure about is the multiple accounts could you expand on that usa?

Maybe he thinks that NSA and Spinnaker are the same person using different personalities. NSA is beer obsessed, and Spinnaker is NSA without the beer (if that's somehow possible)

Thread Hijackings happen because one person goes a little off topic, another person goes a little more, another person goes a LOT more...and so on. Like Sangsta said, trying to stop thread hijackings is like trying to keep the sun from rising.

Oh no, keeping threads from being hijacked is not only possible, but easy... If i was in Sangsta's position i would eliminate a few people from this forum...after that there would be little if any going off topic, and even less hijacking.

I will completely agree that almost every single thread gets hijacked and turned into a conversation or arguement that has absolutely nothing to do with the original thread topic. There have been many threads that I actually thought were pretty interesting until I open it to find all but maybe two replies are just meaningless conversation that have nothing to do with the thread. Most of the conversations should be taking place in the PM system, not through hijacking threads. Well there's my two cents.

Well, I hate to see you go, I enjoy reading alot of your posts. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do I suppose. I personally don't have a problem with all the hub-bub if it's kept in one thread, an appointed thread at that.

It seems as though a few members have actually started some chat-type threads. Now if we could just use them.

One of the things I mentioned when this first started taking place here was using some form of guideline for this chit-chat. That obviously didn't take. It is funny to read some of it and for the most part alot of people seem to be enjoying themselves. That's what it is all about; having fun.

I mean I certainly wouldn't want to see this place go strictly to "Entertainment Talk" it would most likely dry up and, become yet another abandoned forum. I do however wish the hijacking would cease.

I mean a person start's a thread about a game, a band, a movie, a question about something that's related, etc, sure the interest is eventually to fall off and it is going to turn into something else. I just hate to see when a thread is started that it becomes an instant chat-room.

Is there a set number of replies that should open the door for going way off topic in a particular thread? None that I have saw. This is why a single thread, maybe even two for simple chat would be a good idea. It would take out all the guess work.

Also, what is "off topic"? I'm sure there are many definitions of it. I think anything that is related to the original title of the thread is pretty much on. Whether it be that you have played this game, heard someone say it sucked, remember awhile back when someone tried to copy things from this game but it didn't work out in their favor, etc. Same could go for any topic, movies, political figures, accidents at work, etc. Trying to stay remotely close to the original topic is a good thing.

Sure this place isn't custom tailored for myself, or anyone for that matter. I just wished there was some sorta guideline that would be followed.

As for "mushy" stuff, anything sexual, or anything that involves a "personal" emotion (Use your imagination) I think that stuff should be left in PM. Yes, you could say you don't have to read it. However, all we have to go on is the title of the thread, we don't know what's inside.

I hope this isn't taken peronal by anyone, I don't mean it to be directed at any one person. It's just my 2 cents on the matter.

evo you forgot me, I was in those chats.
USA if you go you go, but if you don't like how it is you don't have to stay.
Some things will always be the same and you have to put up with it.
A while ago I had a thread titled "Why this is the off-topic forum" and I said it was because every thread gets off topic.
That's just the way it is and it will always be that way.

If you see an interesting topic and it gets hijacked create your own and explain why, if they hi-hact it ask them not to continue posting about "off topic" things in your thread. You have to work with the people of this forum and they'll work with you /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

PS I'm pointing fingers at anyone this post isn't aimed at anyones feelings at how this forum is run and if anyone has a problem the right thing to do would be to PM a Mod about your feelings.

You're kiddin me right? Then you'll have 15,000 (Random Number) threads about why someone hijacked someone else's thread. That's what is trying to be sought out here. "Working with each other" I don't see the big deal with creating a Gab thread, hell even 3 if needed, and keeping it in there..

It would make things alot easier, as opposed to explanatory threads.

Eh, this'll be the last time I reply to this thread, I can see we are getting nowhere.

Or we could go to extreme measures and have Ubi make a whole other forum for the gabbing and the others could have fun telling gabbers that their post belongs in the "Gab and Off-off-topic dicussion" forum. That's a good fantasy...

I hope we aren't going to start a "gab war" like this.

USA320, consider this. You are likely a valuable member of the forum if you feel that these habitual hijackings and widespread immaturity are destroying the quality of the board itself. If you take the easier path and leave, that is perfectly understandable and respectable. However, if you take the path of greater difficulty, then the board itself will profit and survive that much better because of you. And that is not to force the symbolism of some savior of the board, but to note the nature of the forum itself.

A forum, like this one, has little actual substance to be used as reference (considering that it is off topic), but instead relies solely on the quality of posts and the integrity of those who post within it. What I intend to say is that this board is made great, assuming you can consider it that, by those who have always beens here, those who became mods, etc... And whatever value this forum has, which is determined by the members of it, has the potential to cease. Your presence, and the ideals you uphold (outlined in your post) are an integral part of the forum, even if it is a minority view. Whatever actions you take within the forum (such as helping keep threads on topic and refraining from spamming) are part of the forum itself. And the reality is the same for everyone who posts (though specific notations may be inverse).

So to conclude, your leaving would be acceptable, but nothing would be gained, while your presence could shape the face of the board in the future and prevent its downfall in the present. Vigilance and stature are things that would be easily noticed by newcomers to the board, and besides, how are things to be helped if their is never an example or alternative contrary to the topic hijacking, spamming, and other negative trends visible in the forum.

The difference is made by the members

And who would you eliminate exactly??...

That's obviously not the solution, and even if you did follow through with it, then that's half the people in this forum gone...you can't just "Eliminate" people cause they don't comply to what you think should be posted in a forum...

Times change, and it's usually like this.....If you can't change with the times, then you'll get left behind. Now i'm not trying to insult you USA in any way or form....but if you don't like it...fine../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Also, saying that "one of the mods" contributes to the "spam", isn't a good way to get the problem your having with these forums, sorted../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif ..

Anyway, that's my 30 cents...

Have fun with your childish spam and useless chit chat children, im off to a better place for now, maybe not forever, but at least until this place gets back to the way it used to be. Id rather see flame wars over video game systems than flamewars over respect lists and who whipped who anyday.

unfortunately.. we mods have to adhere to a little small thing called "forum regulations"

while hijacking threads is a big problem.... it really isnt against the forum rules... SPAMMING is usually clear-cut and often the is only one person doing it.

Therefore it would be wrong of me to simply remove people as I see fit.... I'd have to have a good reason..

I do support your quest in trying to reduce the high number of hijacked threads.....

I guess people see this "General Discussion & Off Topic" forum as a means to talk about anything.........thats fine......but when you do it in a thread about a certain topic, it gets difficult to read or follow what the topic is about...

I propose that people start using the GAB thread... and we (mods) will clear it once there are too many pages...

We want people to continue to have fun...but at the same time, take into consideration that... hijacking threads may annoy the original post maker !!

ahhh....hhaa....

So hijacking every other thread and making useless posts that increase loading time arent a good enough reason? I think someone here just wants to be everyones friend. IMHO in the long run ticking off two or three people is worth it if it means cleaning up this forum.

Ohhh.....I have "ticked off" quite a few people my friend... believe me....

But what you're proposing is to stop pointless chatter...

But I do have a idea to improve load times......... remove every persons sig....... ban having sigs altogether...... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif thats sarcasm by the way

but as sarcastic as that may sound it would improve loading times..

BUT i see your point.........

OK....so there we have it..... as a request from the mods please stop hijacking threads for pointless chit chat..... (actually I'll start a new thread....)

Actually i saw in an improvement in todays posts over the past 2 days, and more informative threads, so i was about to tell everyone i would continue to stay, but after the private message you sent me, im afraid that getting cursed at by rude, immature and downright hostile people who dont even know anything about me really isnt worth it for the 3 or 4 good threads posted here each day... I can probably read the same stuff elsewhere without getting swore at.

*sigh*

Don't take this the wrong way USA but leave already....
What is the point of saying you will leave, insulting one of the mods in the process, and complaining that YOUR delicate views are not being met.

That may sound harsh but you carry on about spam when you yourself are responsible for some of it. As is every other member on this board. The odd few (minor few) spam more than should be but overall it is tolerable.

The mods (ALL the MODS) do a good job in cleaning up. Freaky is just as good at her mod role as the others, and at least interacts with the board in a funny manor, which is neither inappropriate or unwanted.

If the forum bothers you sooo much then it is simple as you say leave. I have said before many many times before, if you don't like a thread or someone don't read the thread. There will ALWAYS be something that others do not agree with, but either put up with it, ignore it or leave.

You are a grown man, not a spoilt child. Throwing your toys out of the cot because things don't go your way. Gross exageration I realise, but I have said before I do NOT take kindly to the mods being insulted no matter how indirectly. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

To be perfectly honest I will not care one way or another if you stay or go, I do enjoy some of the things you have to say, but holding the forum Ransom is childish. (In my opinion, it may be wrong but that is how I see it.)

The mods have a hard enough job without these self serving posts about leaving.

Regardless of whether or not a lot of what you say is true, these posts are narcissistic in the extreme.

Don't get me wrong I'm not telling you to leave, or even that I want you to leave, but this is history repeating itself again, and it is annoying, and I am tired of threads about people wanting to leave.

My apologies for coming across harshly but there has been enough garbage over the last week or so without this.

ALL the mods do a great job, and your insinuations about Freaky not being up to the job and spamming are not true, appreciated or wanted. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif As for the rest of the stuff regardless of how true it is, these posts do not help but only add to the discord.

Well said. I haven't been on the forums for awhile beacuse of the respect lists and so on. But I just went away for awhile and checked back in from time to time to see if there are any interesting threads. If they don't interest me, I move on. What's with all the grandstanding? USA320, you usually come across as intelligent and thoughtful and you add to this forum, I just don't get the tantrum because of a few annoying threads. Whatever you make think of a particular Mod is fine, but your comments regarding freakishly are just simply wrong. BUT as for the people who PM'd you with inappropraite language - THAT TOO is wrong. After a very short time it became anouying and i said alot of things that shouldnt have been said .Members and MODs put me straight a few times.Lets all take note ,have fun ,and respet others. Well, actually, I've posted a post whose point is similar with this one at the respect list thread, though it seems that nobody pays any attention to it for I've added "lol j/k" tag at the end of the message. Though not at the first place, I did mean it up to certain extent.

Anyway, USA, though I agree with some of your points, but the way it's delivered making it sound as though you're the only one who is right and never wrong (and not to mention that you bad mouthed some of the mods), while the fact that SKULLS himself stated that sometimes, yourself taking part on those inconsistency posts. Nothing under the sun is perfect, neither is this very Splinter Cell forum, if some of those imperfectnesses are not suitable for you, then you're right, you'd better be leaving. No, I'm not to suggest you to leave nor do I want you to leave or say you deserving leaving; also it's not literally a bad thing leaving certain forums due to some personal reasons.

Just like what Tycho_lives has said, your decision and the reason behind it is perfectly acceptable, understandable and respectable. We would still end up remembering you as one of those intelligent members and you wouldn't have a bad name just because you leave us. We would still respect you, though I do hope that you won't be leaving.

I didnt bad mouth any of the mods... I have disagreed with some of the things Freakishly has done in the past, but as a moderator those things are her decision. Other than that i have no issues with the mods, and i would actually go as far as to commend Freakishly for the idea of the Gab threads.
