To be honest FB was beginning to annoy me. I had steadily progressed for 7 months, was confident at killing online, and at least aware of how I was getting killed.

Then recently I was increasingly getting frustrated, offline was boring- the A.I. is good but still soulless. Extreme One's campaigns kept me going but I was running out of fun.

As for online? I was getting hammered, constantly- shot down left, right and center. I didn't know what was going wrong, I couldn't get a kill, I was embarrassed by my mistakes, I was stalling out, spinning, crashing in a dive, missing easy shots, crashing on landing. To be blunt I stunk.

Then last night- went on Hyperlobby. Began playing, and lo and behold I had the best online session in ages, I was getting into fantastic dogfights, killing loads and getting killed loads. It was great and my flying was fantastic (for me). So why the change?

I really don't know! All I know is that I was beginning to hate IL2 fb, I hated its grasp on me, that made me play even when I didn't enjoy it. Then suddenly everything comes together, you have a measured and effective approach online, and your in love again.

What a fantastic game this is!

It sounds like you were having joystick problems (potentiometers gone crazy).

I also was bored on occasions.....but now its fun. I also dont care for scores. Instead i go through all the interesting ac to see what they can do.

At the moment i try to shoot fighters in IL-2's
http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif I have been flying fighters earlier and seen the Grounpounders take severe beatings and rarely make it back. So I'm investigating the possibilities of evasion and limited dogfighting in it. Great fun.

he he....NP olli. Flying without your swearing in the background feels empty and soulless.
You bring the art of cursing to new hights, as your screenshots.
BTW I might be in for a long vacation from FB. "my" Logicrap is acting up more frequently now.....Full elevator enables also full rudder a third of the times = flip. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Thing is, I wish i could put it down to joystick problems, however truth is it was just gash flying. thing about IL2 is that it requires a certain degree of respect, its not exactly pick up and play, at least if you want to do well. i wouldnt say its playability suffers cos its a great engine- but it definately needs a bit more thought.

i dont really care about scores too, but i do like to at least perform and avoid an instant kill. I also love flying evry single plane, i love them all!

i was flying the spit ixe last night, which seems cool.

I'm beginning to view this game more and more like golf...

A few great holes, then BAM! Triple bogeys, lost balls, water...argh...ready to give up...then a birdie...and it's back to I love golf.

On line: get a kill, maybe bomb a train without AAA killing you, then BAM: a few straight days where you are just a target drone for everyone...then all of a sudden you get a kill with a great deflection shot...and it's back to I love FB!

Man, I hear ya.

I gave up on golf, though.

AI has predictible weaknesses, but is still formidable. Humans (generally) wax me over and over (very frustrating).

I live for that one good night in three or so months of flying online where my deaths don't outnumber my kills http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif . And then I'm addicted for at least another three months of frustration http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thing about online is that sometimes it can be incredibly boring, nothing happens for about 20 minutes, then bam! your dead.

last night i was lucky to be on a really action packed server and it was great craic.

at one point i pulled of a 1000 meter deflection shot, (admittedly by spraying 50 cals!) and the guy drops straight down and as hes crashing rips of my wing with mk108s. unbelievable and totally class.

fb has such a good engine- and it really shines when its pushed to the limit with stacks of engagements.

Due to various reasons, this could go for offline, also (for me, at least).

Jensenpark, the thing you wrote could be the best description of FB immersiveness (and FB addiction, too).

I've had this problem in the past. My solution was to take a week off and think about combat and theories. When I returned I was always better than before.

I don't know how many would agree but my biggest improvements have been made when not playing. Really, I believe that thinking about strategies and energy conservation for a week is very helpful.

Another suggestion is to fly a plane you don't like. Get used to it. Or you could even fly a different type of plane, maybe a bomber. Change is always good but my first suggestion works for me. Good luck.

I find that when my dogfighting skills are in a slump, my bombing skills are on target. I usually switch roles for a while and when things get stale, I switch up.
