I mean, come on, you've got knights, vikings, samurai... how can you NOT add pirates to the mix?

Cause pirates have guns, and they're not associated with any particular culture unlike the other factions. The Vikings are pirates in a way anyways.

I think the devs are trying to root this is some modicum of realism (not historical accuracy, but realism), and for one thing, pirates didn't traditionally wear armour, so they'd all die in one hit from a sword, for another, the prevalence of firearms in pirate arsenals would place all the other factions at a marked disadvantage.

That's not to say that a flintlock or blunderbuss wouldn't be a good Feat ability, but by the time of the Golden Age of Piracy---and in large part due to the advent of firearms---melee weapons had become largely ornamental and their designs were almost exclusively rapiers and sabres (the pirate cutlass being a shortened sabre). There were also boarding axes, but between them, that's only two classes.

I admit it would be fun and interesting, but I honestly don't see it being justified, either from a thematic or implementation standpoint....

Although, if the much discussed and requested Duel Mode were to be added, it could be interesting to have pirates make an appearance somehow. It would have to be pirate vs pirate, on the deck of a galleon, or on a beach, or in a tavern, just to keep the theme, but I could see it there.

This is also true.

vikings have never been pirates but raiders, attacking barely defended weak points (small towns, isolated farms, etc ...) in all haste for looting and leaving asap, always avoiding big army fights if not fights at all.

berbers (north afrika) were famous mediterranean pirates (they roughly invented piracy) and they never used firearms due to their time period of ruling, though pretty long. up to the devs to make a cimeterr user able to fight a knight, not that hard considering crusades actually...

That's not even close to true.

While initially seeking only riches, later Viking raids sought to expand their territory---primarily claiming arable land, since Scandinavia didn't have the best---and not only does that necessitate fighting to claim it, but also repelling attackers (before eventually negotiating treaties with local kings). The Vikings had extensive campaigns in what is now England, and while it's true they were fond of surprise attacks and exploited every weakness they could find, they captured Northumbria, they fought wars with Alfred the Great of Wessex (part of the reason he earned the title is because he successfully repelled them), they fought wars with the Scots and the Irish, engaging in large-scale warfare in both instances (Battle of Cruden, Battle of Clontarf), and raided Paris, Hamburg, and Antwerp (not exactly 'small towns'), and possibly Constantinople (there's mild dispute on whether the 'Rus' responsible for the siege were Norse or not, simply because documentation during the late 800s is so poor).

It's also important to remember this is a culture, while not revolving entirely around warfare, took great pride in fighting, and had an idea of 'heaven' where admittance was granted only to those who died in battle and where a good portion of the time spent there is fighting (training), in preparation for Ragnarok. Avoiding fights would be antithetical to their character.

They 'ruled' well into the 19th century, and they most certainly used flintlocks once their use became prominent.

Regardless, there have been a few threads asking for Arabic warriors, but in this one (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1237085-where-is-the-arabs?), it was suggested that they should be added to the Legion as an additional class (for reasons explained in throughout the thread).
