Hi
What do the different marks mean in the compass. i know the middle one gives current direction. what about the 2 on either side and the little aeroplanes that moves around , is this magnetic North?
thnx

The airplane in the center is an early form of inertial navigation. It points to your next way point, so if it is stait up and down, you are on course. If there are no way points i believe it will point back to your start point.
Remember the German word for East is Ost, so East is represented on the compass by the letter O
I'm not sure what two marks you were talking about but I hope this helps some
