Guys this is an awesome campaign spawned from VEF. It officially started on 1/7/04 and is growing very strongly. I urge you all to have a look http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

do you still have to be part of a squadron to actually take part?

You can very easily create your own squadron http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
But be sure that there are a lot of squadrons who would accept new members!
Just ask it in the official forum: http://vef.klepaker.no/forum/

We'll be glad to see you there pal!

So it is possible to have a Squadron of 1?

It`s sad that so many ppl don`t know good online wars such as VEF and VWF.Ofcourse some just don`t like this kind of competition but most either don`t know how to get aboard or haven`t heard of it.
VWF has got a good part of online FB community involved and we still wait min 20min. to fly.

So true, Carguy. IMHO online wars are the pinnicle of the online flying experiance. Especially when flying with a squadron with voice comms. It makes DF servers seem so pointless (no matter how many points you score http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif). 'Course they're useful for brushing up on flying and gunnery. But they get a little tiresome after a while.

I wish more ppl were involved with online wars. It's as close to real as you can get without getting into an actual airplane.

I think that is the problem, I like Full real 50% of the time, but the other 50% of the time i want that F3 button to watch my sweet fly bys. I guess a lot of people are simply not into Full Real, and this is born out by the servers on Hyper lobby. Shame you cannot have a medium and Full real verion of VWF, then poeple could advance when they feel its right.

Very true. It does show the difference in the two predominant mindsets (simmer vs. gamer) with the gamers being in the majority. I guess I just think of the online wars as one of the few bastions for FR people.

VEF and VWF are ok for something to pass the time. Basically, they are more or less throwing two sets of aircraft pretty much directly at each other, and they duke it out, and try and land.

Good for a distraction.

If you want a real immersive and dynamic war, check out Forgotten Skies (http://www.forgottenskies.com) where they are using Paul Lowengrin's Dynamic Campaign Generator (http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php) to generate a war using both a dedicated dogfight server and coop missions.

Immersiveness in this war was fairly high when I first began flying in December 2003, but it became slightly stale as they were using handbuilt missions to progress the war. It was becoming more a war of micromanagement which is exactly what the admin, Recon, was trying to avoid.

Then they started investigating and testing the DCG with the FS setup in May this year, and have now gone live with it.

There are a good few squads registered on both the axis and allied side, and I would say a good few of these guys are among the best pilots the IL-2 community has to offer, and the FS community itself is a very courteous, and very welcoming one.

Also, voice comms are pretty much 100% necessary (at least on the allied side) in order to fly missions, as organisation and following the plan is the name of the game here.

Drop by and give it a shot!!

Sounds very interesting Tooz. I'll have to see if my squad is registered there.

All online wars have some advantage to offer.

Yes, you are right. I don't mean to lessen the value of any particular set up. It is just my opinion that Forgotten Skies is the best war setup available for my personal tastes.

One of the main advantages of VWF is that a lot of people flies in it and it's not difficult to find a mission to fly!

I think it's the most successful war at this moment http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
