I can tell you which has more ammo.... but more power???
Anyone here know numbers?

While on topic - does anyone know if any guns from this game exist today? are they ever fired with live ammo?

I saw on history channel where they recently dug up the p38 from below about 200 feet of ice and they fired the 20mm cannon into a steel drum and it tore the heck outta it.

Just curious....

Yeah, the show about Glacier Girl...I'm amazed that the cannon still even worked after all this time...I don't know the answer to your question though.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

IL-2 3M has NS-37 37 mm cannons. Muzzle velocity is 880 m/s and It can penetrate armor up to some 50 mm.. still more than enough to kill most german tanks, when shooting to rear and behind fhe tanks.

Stuka G-1 has BK 3,7 37 mm cannons, using Tungsten rounds for antitank-purpose. Muzzle velocity is as high as 1140 M/s when using Tunsgten-rounds. Also more than enough to bust those ruskie tincans. So in raw perfomance Stuka G-1 should have better guns for shooting tanks. And for armor penetration. NS-37 has heavier shell though, and more high-explosive.. and the gun is also bit lighter, and has higher ROF than BK 3,7. So Il-2 cannons are better against soft targets, and also have 50 shells, comparing to only 12 in the Stuka...

IMO NS-37 in FB 1.0 is way better than Stuka cannons.. Even at tank busting.. though its pretty easy to knock out T-34s, and Shermans, but it is even more easier with NS-37.. Hopefully Patch makes STuka cannons bit better, or IL-2 cannons worse..

37-mm cannon stalled in the ju 87 g1 and the hs129b-2/r3 were incapable of piercing the armour of the t-34 and kv-1 tanks,37mm weapon was capable of immobilising the t-34 by blowing off a track

I remember there was a large thread about this in the past, and the info that people provided showed that the BK-3.7 with tungsten ammo can penertrate any point on the tank, even the front, from a range of 100m and obliquity less than 30deg, and that the top and back can be penetrated from much greater ranges.

This is how it works in the beta patch btw. 2-3 BK3.7 hits kills a T-34. I didn't try the NS37, but it might do less damage now.

brookt,

It was capable of a lot more than immobilizing the T34.

Read about it here:

I read Rudel's book a number of years ago.

I also remember seeing some guncam fil on this. Not too sure if it's on the net though.

I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.
