The war was not going well for the russians, and stalin wanted to hit back at the germans where he knew it would hurt them most, berlin, and the riestag. conventional bombers no longer had the range and there was a dire lack of escort fighters. un detured by this stalin demanded a attack. the conversion of existing aircraft was the only way, and all modern types where being sent to the front, old designs would haveto be modernised. Russian scientists had be working on a cloth that was many times stronger than steal and lighter. this it was decided was the only way stalins demands could be met. painstaking work was started to reskin a set of tb3s, and i16s to provide fighter cover. the weight saved would allow for more ecomonic flight, and also more fuel. the aircraft were skinned with the fabric and resined, after they had set the insides where taken out, only a few internal surports remained. but still the aircraft where expetionaly strong.

The brave airmen set off at dusk, to hit there target at 8am, the tb3 ran on just 2 engines to conserve fuel for the flight home, inside the i16s the pilots shivered, no engine to keep them warm.

hedge hoping all the way to berlin, they split up for there attack runs. each crewman had a camera, and some where stuck on the aircraft aswell. The aircraft had no paint to save weight, but stalin insisted on cameras for the propoganda.

These are the pictures they took.

Yeah http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif although Firefox seems to be a bit better than IE in this respect, but still.....

Firefox is a lot better- specially 0.9.x. introduced two more peeps to it the other night; show them tab browsing 'nice!' middle click tab opening 'useful' search bar commands (google whatever imdb nameoffilm) the popup blocking 'so its built-in?' and best of all, run spybot to show them how much crud IE allowed onto the machine '146 spyware bots?!!!' that usually sells it.

Can a TB-3 really fly on two engines?

And would it really conserve fuel, since you'd be going soooo slow? Kind of like running out of gas because you locked your keys in your car while it was running. But I would think that since the TB-3 is so underpowered to begin with, that losing two engines would deprive the airplane of so much power that it wouldn't even be able to fly level.

yes a tb3 can fly on 2 engines, it can fly on 1 engine, but u need to drop your bombload, atleast partly to stay afloat
