It's been 2.5 years since I built my last system (an Athalon XP 2000 with Geforce 2 video card) and I've had to turn down the level of detail on FB to get decent framerates... With this in mindI've dusted off my wallet and am putting together a new system.

I've purchased the following so far:
CoolerMaster Case
480 Watt Power Supply
DVD ASUS 16X DVD
DVD+/-RW PLEXTOR|PX-712A
CPU FAN SPIRE|SP703C3
Asus A8V Deluxe VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset ATX AMD MB
(2)WESTERN DIGITAL WD740GB SATA 74GB RAPTOR

I plan on getting:
XP 64FX 53
1 gig of OCZ 3500 Ram

I'd like a Radeon X800 XT but it's like vaporware... you can't find it for love or money.

Any suggestions, warnings or tips before I finish up?

Thanks in advance...

Got my X800XT from BestBuy the day they came out. Also Visiontek has them right now as well.

Also, get a decent soundcard, like an Audigy 2 or similar. This will help FPS and sound quality, and will last longer than any other components. Don't beleive people who say the onboard sound is ok - it isn't. Onboard sound from my experience isn't anywhere close to the quality or functionality of a separate soundcard.

I was thoroughly dissapointed with the soundstorm on my A7N8X-E deluxe, and now consider my Audigy 2 to be the best and most significant component upgrade I have ever bought. You can obtain the card for about 50. from various locations and is excellent value considering the quality. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

One additional question, I'm thinking of dropping the Creative Soundblaster line for the M-Audio Revolution Card. My current system uses a first Generation Audigy Platinum, but those are expensive and reallll hard to install. But if I go online I'll need headset and voice and that's easy with the Audigy's front panel. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

Disappointed? How?
I have an A7N8X Deluxe myself and like the soundstorm very much, what problems did you have with yours?

I just built almost same system.

FX53 + A8V

Onboard sound is good so you dont need extra soundcard.

I am also looking everywhere for a 6800 Ultra, any idea's ?

My system:
--------------------------
AMD FX53 / 939 socket
ASUS A8V Deluxe
1 Gb Corsair TwinX 3200 XL
WD 10,000 rpm SATA 74 Gb
WD 7,200 rpm SATA 160 Gb
TrackIr2
Saitek X45
Win XP SP1

Had onboard sound on my old system. It sucked. The Audigy 2 ZS is great, easy to install and takes a load off my processor. Highly recommended.

Yeah I've a similar system ready to build tomorrow cept I'm using two 74 gig raptors in Raid 0. Question though, I thought to use SATA drives they had to be the same size and speed or is that if you plan to use them in a raid set up only?
