Sorry to make another post, but after another 40 QMB dogfights in a FW-190D vs. P-63 I have yet to down a P-63 for a reason other than engine fire/failure. The engine seems so weak it is ridiculous, the structure seems so strong it is equally as silly. It's a shame as a Gibbage did an amazing job with this aircraft but it has the worst DM by far of any plane IMO.

Lexx, it has always been this way. But I'll try a bunch of missions tomorrow and I will let myself get hit as you suggested.

Don't let yourself "get hit." Do as you normally do...okay if you are uber Ace, then do a QMB against sixteen (16) enemy AI (like Saburo's dance with 16 Hellcats and with one eye only).

The goal is not to win, but to get hit...just don't LET yourself get hit, but put yourself in a situation that makes it impossible not to get hit no matter what you do.

Given the location of the engine it's not great surprise if it is vulnerable to fire. Even the USSR felt this way about the P39/63 it seems. With the apparent increase in destructive power of guns (or general weakening of DMs) front engined planes have their engines catch fire very easily if hit by defensive fire from bombers, so with the P63 having an engine that is easy to hit from the rear rather than the front engine vulnerabililty seems not beyond the realms of possibility.

It will be pretty hard to get hit in a plane like the P-63C so I'll take your advice. I never just let myself get hit per-se, I try to get hit as in a combat situation. If you let yourself get hit they will simply tear you up and that doesn't really tell me anything. I want more angle shots and glancing hits. Still, the only time I have ever seen a P-63 lose a wing or have structural failure is when I rammed it out of frustration. Even then it only lost a wingtip http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

I just destroy a P-63 in a Ki84 Ic when his wing got off apart with my 30mm cannons... 2-4 or max 6 of those shell and saw the p63 going round round round'n down

To clarify, I mean with anything below 30mm. That is why I chose the Dora.

I did some testing myself:

1 Dora vs 4 P-63 (vets)

they seem to catch on fire very easily, like the P-39 in fact, very hard to clip a wing, in fact they all went down in flames except no1 I managed to tear off one elevator and he crashed.

Like the p-39 too, it seems like they can leak oil forever b4 the engine starts to fail...

somethings not right with the p-39 and the P-63 DM...I agree

yes the P63 DM is rediculous ,offline its engine seems to catch fire very fast but still no structural damage then a elevator or rudder

Offline its harder to set it on fire even with BIG guns like the Mk108s ,it still wont fall apart or blow up even with v2.01
the best way to take out a P63 is MG fire in the engine ,other then that its pretty much a tank and i dont like it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif
