I've been here since 2010, lurked since 2009.

From 2009 to 2015 we have had a game (or two) year after year. The forums are always buzzing, speculation, hype, anger, pizza and now...

It's silent... and it's Bloody weird!

The forums are like a ghost town. This seems surreal to me because this is the first time in 6 years where nothing in the AC franchise game wise is happening.

It's scary.

I feel cold.

I don't like this.

This is actually fairly normal for this time of year. Normally we'd be getting the first bits of information about the next game between March-April, before that it's usually been pretty dead. It'll be weirder as we get closer to E3 and things don't pick up.

I actually am going to miss all of the buzz and speculations, but I do feel that this place can do without the scepticism and negativity with each new release. By them taking the year off, I might actually feel the genuine excitement that I felt back then in 2009 which was 2 years after the release of the first game.

I am sure there will be something AC related at E3, whether thats a remastered collection, or more chronicle games, the VR movie thing, or maybe even a 20 second teaser trailer for next years AC game so that the Ancient Egypt rumors can finally be confirmed by Ubisoft :D

The speculation and the rumors and the discussions about those things have always been one of more exciting things about this franchise.

I'm too poor for next gen so no main game for me since 2013.

I am of the belief there will be something AC related at E3, even if it is just a vague tease. As for now, many expect the movie trailer next week, so it may pick things up.

But yeah, think we've covered pretty much all of the speculation and theories we can manage for the time being. :(

Just wait till the first teaser, first trailer whatever you call it comes along...then it's deja vu all over agian.

Movie doesn't count, just like the comics, books, etc...

Movie counts a great deal more than comics, books...it's not another piece of transmedia.

The number of people (and by that I mean, the comic-reading non-AC fan audience) who read comics, books etcetera are fewer than the people who play the games. This is why Ubisoft's marketing and developers don't take that seriously.

The number of people however, who will see Assassin's Creed movie will be greater than the people who play the games, mostly because the movie audience is not the gamer audience. Ask most people about Lara Croft, and they will say Angelina Jolie, ask most people about Prince of Persia they would think of that Jake Gyllenhaal movie. For most people Resident Evil is that Milla Jojovich film and Mark Wahlberg is Max Payne.

So get ready for conversations with people about Assassin's Creed whose sole reference point is Michael Fassbender..."So I saw this movie and I put the first AC game on, and I am thinking why is this guy Arab? Aren't Assassins European" and they will ask "Where's Jeremy Irons, is he too good for games?"

I wasn't here back then but I must admit that I expected some of the sticky threads to have more activity, such as the one about the new features the developers should introduce in the game.

In a way it's funny, I'm one of those who greeted the break with a big smile on his face but I would be lying if I say that I will not miss the game. Incidentally, for me it's a little "tougher" since I started the series two years ago and since then I never took a break.

This will be my first break and it will last longer than normal.

And no, the movie will not fill the void. I'm a movie lover but since I prefer foreign, less-known movies, this one is certainly not my cup of tea.

And nether would a remastered version of the old games. The first few games felt special because that's how they were, I would find it awkward to replay one of these games with different graphics.

But there are some DLCs I didn't play, I might try those to start with.

;)

A remastered collection if one does come out wont give me much hype, and tbh I wonder if its even worth it. Smoothed over textures and maybe a 30fps cap... the PS3/360 versions of past AC games are quiet fine imo. Plus I know what to expect from a remaster, a new game just gets the juices flowin'

While I was waiting for AC2, I replayed AC1 about 13 times on the ps3 and twice on the pc (total is now 18 times). When I was waiting for ACB, I had already played AC2 about 9 times (grand total is now over 30 times). ACB, about 5-6 times before ACR released (by now I've replayed the former 18 times and ACR, 13 times). And so on. The number of replays for subsequent chapters diminished year by year but I felt compelled to revisit them many times before the next chapter came out.

But ACU...? Only 2 times, and the 2nd playthrough was mostly to paint the map white. I haven't picked up Ro, S, or ACC. I don't really have any interest in popping ACU back into my machine at least for a while. Maybe the gameplay isn't changing enough, so less replay value? Or maybe the gameplay has changed but not in a way that attracted me to the series in the first place? Maybe the worlds, settings, time periods just aren't that fun to explore anymore? Maybe the stories and characters don't have the same allure? Bugs, glitches, and online-only features on the rise? It could be I'm just getting old and/or falling behind the series? Maybe AC is suffering the same fate as other franchises, where each sequel can't live up to their predecessors? Maybe there's nothing wrong with the newer ACs, could it be that I saturated my life with AC for so many years so now I'm just tired of it? I dunno... all of the above maybe?

But yeah, replaying the previous chapter was what I used to do to pass the time, to help feel closer to Assassin's Creed. I also used to collect memorabilia but I started to slow down around AC3 and came to a full stop after AC4. When I wasn't playing any of the games, I was looking at the statues and artbooks, I listened to the soundtracks on my phone. I think some of the Unity tracks are super duper awesome but I only saved like 5-6 tracks and only listened to those 2-3 times. For Jesper Kyd's music, I could listen to it on the car, in the shower, going to bed, etc; ACU's music for the most part feels like it should be only heard when you're playing the game and watching the cutscenes.

I guess waiting - back in the AC1 days - was also easier because there weren't as many hopes and expectations. There was one game and it was satisfying, you could just appreciate that one thing. So back then, it didn't feel like waiting or hoping against all odds.

From my perspective. I'm like Ureh and have played all of the AC versions (except Unity) numerous times. I'm an old, retired guy and the AC series has just fit in nicely with my likes, abilities and reflexes and I enjoy playing and replaying them. During the long, cold winter months I don't get out much and have spent a lot of the time being entertained with my PS3, PS4 and computer being an assassin. I like to play using different approaches, e.g. I'm replaying Syndicate this time by first collecting all of the chests and leveling up with non-sequence activities such as cargo hi-jacks and escorts. I've been to the late night releases and have stood in cold lines with others anxiously waiting to get my hands on the latest release. I will most definitely miss a yearly release.

Not to us though, we care more about the games, so movies and stuff don't count for us and that's what we're discussing.

I wish them the best of luck, but I kinda doubt the AC movies will get their own dedicated fanbase separated from the original source like the Marvel movies and the Resident Evil movies have.

Tomb Raider was already part of pop culture before the movie and I don't think the Prince of Persia and Max Payne movies created any impact whatsoever to supplant the games in popularity, I think those two movies are only truly remembered among videogames fans for their mediocrity.

Yup all of us have to deal with this break from yearly release, the hype, the negativity, the positivity, heated discussions,

I guess we miss it all

Hey but we have other stuff to do as well. Here is my six step process , to get ready for 2017 :P

1. We can always discuss AC lore and our favorite characters

2. Read the AC titan comics Both the Assassins and Templars series each month, (It is cannon lore). I really found the Assassin's Series good. I recommend to all the modern day fans

3. On March 25th we are likely to get the movie trailer.(In a few days)

4. Before christmas this year, replay our Favorite AC games, I am certainly replaying ACII and AC IV

5. Go watch the movie On December 21st

6. And wait for announcement on Feb 2017, about the next AC game . and begin the hype train

These are exactly the questions I have been asking since Unity.

Make no mistake, Unity is the game I am replaying at the moment, the one that will hopefully keep me busy for a while. The gameplay can be a refreshing experience but in respect to the characters I'm on your same boat.

I remember when I used to play Revelations for 30 minutes a day even after achieving the 100% sync, like that, just roaming around and maybe replaying a mission every now and then.

I also remember the days of AC2, going back to the game to collect all remaining collectibles, stopping in Venezia just to watch people dance and sing in that pictoresque area of the map.

I also played Rogue quite a lot as I was waiting for the CUH-1200 PS4 to be available on the market and I must say that although I hated Black Flag for not being in the city, I today understand that I was wrong, that BF and Rogue and their locations in the open were a welcome addition to the series.

Going back in a city with Unity was nice but Syndicate felt somehow claustrophobic even if it has a lot more space than Unity.

To your "maybe the worlds, settings, time periods just aren't that fun to explore anymore" question I answer with a Yes and I believe the writers of the series know this, reason why they decided to take a year off.

Would I feel the same about Unity and Syndicate if they were not the 8th and 9th game of the series? Probably not but as it is, Unity is just a game I play for a challenge and Syndicate ended up being a "play and forget" experience.

^ This is me. I don't know if the games have gotten worse over time or if I'm the one who's changed. All I know is I've lost count of how many times I've replayed the first three games, but ever since AC3 I haven't finished any game more than once. Even the ones I really enjoyed like AC4.

I think we can all agree that the media being released this year- be it the movie, an HD collection, spin off games- none of it will set this place ablaze like a new title in the series would.

Which is kind of a bummer, I know.

Hopefully, though, absence will make the heart grow fonder, and 2017 will see the forums return in full force.

I really would like to, but I really don't know where to get it. I'm in Quebec, Canada. Also, the only book about ac I can read are in french, so while I'm at it, when I do an ac serie, I do it entirerly in french. Lol. I would really like to do some of the things you added, but problem is I can't.

-1. I don't have Alta´r's chronicles.
1.5. I don't have ac bloodlines or a psp.
3.5. I don't have a cell phone and don't want one either since I prefer a house phone. So, I don't think I'll have discovery, anytime soon.
For the 3 acc, I have China, but hate it, so I don't want to pay for India or Russia.
And finnaly 7.6.
7.7.
13.5. I don't have those books, but I would like to. The problem is I don't know where to find them.

I guess I could ask the library if they could get them for me to rent them. When I'll go live in that city with my brother that is. ^-^

Haha it does feel a bit odd :). I dunno if it helps but Watch Dogs 2 is on its way for this fall (reveal at E3). I'm currently playing through the first and I have to admit it's pretty fantastic. Awesome concept that the devs have done a great deal of smart things with (and some OW fluff ofc). Compared to GTA it offers so much more in terms of gameplay variety and fun (imo).

So don't know about you guys but I'm def looking forward to the sequel :D!

Yes, like the one about Olivier Garneau being killed in wd while no one know where he is in black flag. There was also a wd easter egg in ac iv. Anyone reading the intel we got on the tablet knows about it, but for the sake of it, Abstergo entertainment's security system is the ctos (the one we use in wd). ^-^

I dunno, I'm prety shallow I guess, I thought the story worked fine. They set up some of the moments really well I thought. But I agree that the gameplay was the highlight. Perhaps not as rock solid stealth as Splinter Cell, or as good a shooter as say Max Payne 3, and driving was a bit loose, but given that it was an open world game and that all these systems blended Watch Dogs played fantastcically. Hacking really made a meaningful difference to all areas.

And it's easy to see how they can expand on the concept in tons of different ways if they want. Perfect situation for a sequel!

I think this can only be a good thing I'm actually playing through the whole series again and I've actually forgotten what beautiful game AC3 actually is ... I'm very excited about the movie and if the rumours are true Egyptian Empires will be an awesome addition to the series ! Imagine what they could do with the Assassin Tombs ( AC2 ) exploring pyramids stalking Templar henchman through the Papyrus leaves on the river Nile ? .. I guess we can dream ha .. But I certainly think this is a good thing if it means the game is going to be superbly polished and plays amazingly well .. I was certainly blown away with syndicate so let's hope this break serves the franchise well .

Here is mine.
I decided to purchase the "Assassin's Creed: Anthology":

I will replay all games, maybe only skipping the first one, including all DLCs which I never played.

I will also give AC3 a second try, you never know.

I just finished Unity a couple of days ago because I refused to buy a ps4 until it went down to 250 pounds which only happened at the beginning of this year (as far as I could find). As someone who has remained loyal to my favorite franchise (even through all my huffing and puffing) I know what it's like to feel behind the AC world. However, there are benefits in that I'm enjoying the game quietly now without the negative experiences that some people had who purchased/played the game at launch. I've still got loads to do in game as well so I'm not rushing to buy Syndicate especially since I want to savor that one ( as an American who has lived in London over a decade I'm excited to see that beautiful open world that Ubisoft always delivers). Now that they are FINALLY taking a break (whoohoo!) you have even more time to catch up when you are able. You will have three, maybe more games to indulge yourself in; a smorgasbord of Assassin's Creed.

It is rather quiet for a forum, but unlike most forums, at least its not full of nasty remarks and insults, which is nice, but it is an eerie silence, I feel like I'm on xb1, none of my 'friends' speak, just post clips, no one responds to questions, my kitten replies more. Meh

Oh hey, welcome!

Well unfortunately, at least how I see it, ever since how the stories and gameplay went about for the last few games, everyone got really burned out. So its kind of hard for people to feel enthusiastic about something after the past few games were dragging ya know? Theories were always a big thing to talk about here. But after what has transpired with the lore, all links seem to lead to a dead end, so no one feels to bring them up anymore. I just do hope that the next game causes a living pulse again.

Play the first one. I still think it is one of the best!

I feel that Ubisoft are spending far too much time developing the recent AC games with collectibles. Syndicate has far too many of different types.

Also, the Perks. How daunting is this ordeal! Donutting a carriage using the brakes around 10 corners 75 times - what's that all about?

Ubisoft would have done far better concentrating on reducing the loading times between scenes. In a 5 hour session, I bet 1 hour is spent looking at the Evie or Jacob Animus dreamscape!

I shall still carry on buying and playing any other AC games that are released. I've played them all since they started with the first one. I still get an enormous amount of enjoyment out of them even the mojo has been somewhat lost lately.

I'm using the break to catch up. I fell behind back when III came out; got started and just couldn't get into it. Last year I finally finished it, but I've now got BF, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate, and the Chronicles to play through.
