Finally a step in the right direction Ubi. Bravo!!!

Was it the community members hacking the dedicated_to_ubi server that finally made you wake up and smell the coffee?

Either way thank you to whoever the person is that got this done !S

A little bird just told me that Ubi may not have been totaly at fault with the whole dedicated_to_ubi_server.
Iv'e never known this bird to lie so maybe I've been basing my view of this whole situation on pure speculation.
If that is the case then.......

Excellent, FB now has a working dedicated server program. Thanks very much Ubisoft.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

Gee, I'm glad they didnt give it to us too today. Otherwise, I would've made a big mess here... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

For people joining who have the FBserver installed for the purpose of joining Dedicated games at UBI and HL, do we need to make any changes? Do we need to restore the old folder architecture/path names?

Yup, begs the question- how does this change the set-up required to play as a client now? Do we still need the UBI game service installed?

What a fantastic response though by the developers to the work put in recently by dedicated community members in this area, really impressed. Top hole wot?

Just did the update, the 335th_GRServer is in the Hyperlobby up and running :-)

No need to install ubi.com as a client, all machines (FBserver-patched and non-patched) are equally getting in the DC through Hyperlobby.

need to check the pings now, I notice some 100ms longer pings but this maybe due to the heavy traffic tonight.

Many Thanks UBI for the very wise decision !

Good deal, glad it`s patched. Must roll back all the changes that i made now hehe.

All clients that had Wildhoney`s setup. You can either keep it that way...or REMOVE FBServer and rename files back to what they were. Redirect HL back to original il2fb.exe. It`s very simple.

So if I still need to use Hyper Lobby to fire the game up then we are no further forward than we were before using Wildhoneys fbserver.exe.

I was kind of hoping I was hoping that we could just start the dedicated server.exe file and people would see it with HL, ubicom and IP

Am I asking too much?

Or does it just mean with the new server patch people no longer need to use the wild honey tool to join a HL game?

THANKS!!!

Worked like a champ!!!!

Two issues that UBI NEEDS to work out now are:

1 - DEDICATED SERVER NEEDS A PASSWORD!!!!

2 - Should run as a service once launched

Three things I'd like to see:

1 - CoOperative added

2 - tod comand in console

3 - ability as host to see who is in the server and what thier score/ping is through the console (like the "s" in the game)

Thanks for the dedicated server and patch UBI. Add these and I'll be estatic.

As the server is dedicated it could potentially be running 24/7 so the time is frozen i believe, so that it's not dark for half the time.

Figured out the "user" thing :$

I figured out the P/w too

In the console type "server PWD (xxx)"

Then it is p/w protected.

To remove type "server PWD"

And it goes away.

Before, when you hosted on UBI, it would launch like a server and run in the background, I haven't quite figured out how to do it with hyperlobby. If I figure it out, I'll post.

OK so let me get this straight. you now longer need to have the dedicated server on your machine to join a game hosted by a dedicated server on HL?

In other words the only person that needs anything is the people planning to host a dedicated server.

Am i right? Some one explain how this works & what is needed to join a dedicated server.

just a default installation of F is all that is needed to play. Hosting requires the DS software and 1 name change to host on HL. Ubi requires no name change. You do not need to have the client installed on host or client machine if playing on HL.

I can confirm that that is not the case. Time still passes and I sometimes find my server in the dark. I have to then reload a map to reset the time. I used to have scripts that would rotate the server's tod every 7 hours but these can't work as there's no TOD command.

This would be something that needs to be fixed.

Ive got some time off today so I am going to mess with our server but if anyone can save me some work I'd appreciate it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am talking about a server instalation here not client side.

Am I right that if I want to start a game that people can join using HL I just need to start the server using HL to fire up il2server.exe (the ubi one not wildhoneyone ;-))

If I want to run the server on ubi.com I use the GSIL2server_launcher.exe file as before?

I started the server last night just using il2server and the console stayed open and folk could join by using IP

FANTASTIC

Many thanks to HUnter and whoever else was involved.
Havent tried it yet but it will surely solve most of the problems we were having judging by the comments in the forum.

I too would like to get a Time Of Day thing sorted or maybe an option to freeze the time at might be easier.

Remote access at this stage from what I have read, the easiest way to do this seems to be by using FBDaemon.
Unless other folk have got better ideas or solotuions for that.

Anyways this is a total PRAISE POST for the effort put in to patching the DS software.
Nice one chaps.

why not using the event like 'timeout 3600000 f gc.cmd'

this should lauch gc.cmd after a while. so in this command file you request to restart the game ...

Don't known if this work :-) but in general whare they are a list about all command lines ?

Like the GC command .. what is it ?

Thanks

Simple question, hopefully will get a simple answer.

When hosting with Ubi.com we could host 24 player games after altering the rts.dll file, now using HL no matter what I do it seems nto to want to let us host anything other than 16 i have typed 24 inot the window when setting the server up but no good still says 16 when game is running.

Also if i click save info button when setting game up in HL it just reverts back to what it was before i made changes to settings.

Any ideas? Does HL write the settings to a file? If so it would seem that it cant write to it.

Copy your rts.dll from your game folder and overwrite the one in your server. It should let you have 32 then. Mine is anyways. Have yet to get that many in,let alone know If my server can handle that many. 131st_dedicated on Hyper is running for the moment. Haven't been able to get FBD to recognize it but just started trying.

LOL I mentioned in my origianl post that I had done the rts.dll file thing to get it above 16.

Ive just checked our server from HL and it says 24 player but it wont let meore than 16 join.

This is not good

Sorry UBI has been messing with me all day. Saying board is busy to all other types of errors even here at work so it must be on thier end.

I looked this thread all the way through and don't see where you mentioned doing it. Oh well, none the matter. I tried.

copy rts.dll out of regular game and replace the one in FB server. In conffs set server channels to whatever you like. Copy users folder from FB into FB server /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well Veta did it work m8 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I know its my server you been tweaking but not seen you around to ask.

Hunter when we coppied the rts.dll to the server it came up asking for CD number 2 which as its a remote dedicated server is not an option so I used a modified rts.dll that doesnt need the cd.

It still would not let us have more than 16 players. Im just going to check the other setting you mentioned. The thing is before we patched the server it was happily running 24 players via Ubi.com with teh rts.dll from my game.

Strange.

Yet another nice *freebie* that 1C Maddox/Ubi has provided that is fixing another free product (i.e., the FB dedicated server). Still, to have this many free add-ons is very unusual in the software publishing business.

I presume you have already done so but, besides copying the users directory and replacing the rts.dll, did you remember to change the confs.ini line serverChannels=16 to serverChannels=32 ?
