Model, let's say a plane like the Spitfire IX?
Or a Gladiator? Some guy who made planes for RB3D is claiming it can be done in a few hours.

I know he is wrong. But I never modelled anything on a computer. Don't even know what tools to use.

I doubt a Spit IX or Gladiator could be done that fast. Or am I wrong?

Some of these planes have been worked on, not hours, weeks, or months, but actually YEARS. From what I have read, the external model is not nearly as difficult as the cockpit, and this is the the reason for the time involved.

You are right J30Vader - hours is out of the question. You can make a static model in a couple of hours if it's simple - but thats not enough for FB...

Models are designed using 3DStudio Max (old versions). They are not 1 model though but have several LOD's (Levels of Detail) and are VERY close to the Real thing (model scale is 1:2). The model are animated too - buzzword Kinematics http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif - (moving control services, gear) and all axis have to be according to 1C:Maddox specs...

But once you have your model (including LODs), you still have no skin, so that takes a lot of time too (try changing a Void skin - try a Spitfire - you will see its a he** of a job to get even a roundel that looks good on there)...

So skin and model (like for AI plane) will take weeks or months or even years like Tsisqua said.

And it's NOT only the modelling - you FIRST have to have reliable data on the plane (this includes flying characteristics) or it will be rejected by 1C:Maddox and not make it into the game at all...

And then there is the cockpit... and here we go again - time time time...

It's a VERY BIG job to make a plane for IL-2.

Thanks guys. I suspected as much. I can only salute those who take the time and have the dedication to make these models.

I don't know if any of you are looking at Knights over Europe, but some of the screen shots of the aircraft framing remind me of some of The IL2 and BoB dev shots.

The guy I speak of claims he offered to model aircraft for this game, and was told to buzz off. I think he couldn't meet the standards expected.

Looking @ Knights - yes - they do look good those bi-planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif...
But I'd want a demo first http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif to see if online play is OK (I don't have a very fast comp either so I first want to tes-drive it) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And look at the pics now coming out for BoB wow thats an "AT ANY PRICE" for me... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I have more than enough faith in Oleg et al to buy that one the minute it hits the shelves...

The amount of time it takes to model something depends on what your poly limits are, what you're modeling, and depends on the individual modeler's skill. For some it's harder to grasp; for others (like Gibbage) it can be done very quickly.

Gibbage is a very good modeler and did several planes for IL-2 - still - Gibbage cant do magic either - I think he will agree that doing a model for IL-2 in "a few of hours" is OutOfTheQuestion... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif no way...

Lil Labbit

If you can run AEP you will be able to run KOE.

I am trying to get through to this guy that models for FB are far harder and more time consuming to do than for RB3D.

Could Gib do a Spitfire from top to bottom, pit included, in less than a day. Only he knowshttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

BTW, I meant he was told to buzz off my Maddox1c.

Thats why I said it depends on what you're modeling. Theres more than IL-2 for modeling, y'know.
