View Full Version : Some serious questions for Luthier

My friend,
Here are a few questions that might not exactly be "burning issues of our time" but nonetheless, should be asked sooner or later.
If you have time:

1) Will the JAAF and JNAF both be represented in PF?

2) Is there anything like a list of AI planes that will be represented that you can post for us soon?

3) Will Army and Navy campaigns for both sides be available, and will these be dynamic campaigns or scripted?

4) Will lesser known, but important vessel types be available (i.e., Japanese "Daihatsu" type barges, very important to their war effort after mid '43)

5) Will we be able to fly long distances across the lovely South Pacific in real time? Will we have the necessary instruments to aid us in this navigational endeavor?

6) Will PF maintain the "no human carnage" policy of FB, or will we have ground troops to attack ala Janes WWII Fighters?

7) Admittedly, most Pacific air combat took place below 20,000ft, but will PF re-visit the high altitude model that is currently understated in FB?

8) What kinds of improvements in CEM can we look forward to in PF?

9) What kinds of improvements in AI can we look forward to (i.e., will AI still be able to "see" through clouds, etc)?

10) What is being done to increase the immersion factor? (Period newsreels, an officers club to catch up on gossip, etc., in flight period radio broadcasts, Japanese radio voices, in-depth mission briefings, etc).

11) And finally, before my friend Seafire asks, if we get shot down in a campaign can we be picked up by a submarine to fight another day? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

Can you tell I'm just a LITTLE excited by this? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Great post. I'm wondering this too. I'd love to see early and overlooked planes(ie:Boomerang,P-35,etc.) included too.

Chris that was one of the most intelligent well thought out posts Ive seen on this forum..... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I imagine that since Luthier said in another post that FB and PF would be completely compatible that if the high alt FM is to be improved it may actually be done in FB through a patch.

I have a question as well... do you have any idea how much of the PF "prelim"stuff will come to FB as patches.... you know like we got the maps and the Pony and Zekes in a patch.. but they apparently were slated to be released with the AEP. Will something similar to that happen here?

Thank you for the kind words Bear http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Your question has me thinking: Were we not told that there would be additional flyables in the soon to be released AEP patch? I may be wrong (I'm "acronymed out" right now- IL2, FB, AEP, PF BOE BOB http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif)but I thought we were.
Now you've got me thinking that maybe some of them could be PF stuff- Oh, well, we can hope anyway! BTW Bear how do you like my new Sig?
Aint she a beaut?

I'm reporting this post to the moderators, it doesn't fit the rest of the board at all!

quote:
1) Will the JAAF and JNAF both be represented in PF?

Yes. Plus USAAF, USN, USMC, and a couple of other little allied countries http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

quote:
2) Is there anything like a list of AI planes that will be represented?

Of course there is http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

quote:
3) Will Army and Navy campaigns for both sides be available, and will these be dynamic campaigns or scripted?

There will be dynamic campaigns for all of those - we'll also try to do as many scripted ones as we can, but I can't promise anything specific yet on the static ones.

quote:
4) Will lesser known, but important vessel types be available (i.e., Japanese "Daihatsu" type barges, very important to their war effort after mid '43)

We have a whole crapload of ships in there, and there will definitely be some very interesting lesser known examples - among ground vehicles too - but all in all there were so many different ships in the Pacific we're only touching the tip of the iceberg.

quote:
5) Will we be able to fly long distances across the lovely South Pacific in real time? Will we have the necessary instruments to aid us in this navigational endeavor?

Instrument flying won't be much different from FB in PF. Regarding flying extremely long distances, this is still TBD so I'm not going to comment on it.

The rest of questions are all TBD at the moment. I mean, the decision has been made pretty much in every case, but it's still subject to change. So I don't want to give you guys false hopes, or dissappoint unnesecarily.

I will say that I'm personally all for ground troops and as much carnage as possible, always have been, and drastic improvements in AI and immersion. If we've had extra two years to work on this project, I'd answer an enthusiastic yes to all of your questions. However having the time and resources that we have, the only general answer I can give is that we'll try to do as much as we can to make this a more realistic, involving experience.

Great set of questions, I didn't ask them because I didn't figure we'd get answers yet! Ha!

This is sounding just great. I can just imagine the anti-shipping missions, flying a B-25.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Cool answers, not overly optimistic, but with priorities in place, along with realism.

I guess good questions bring that out in good people...

Luthier, what an awesome and quick response. Thank you!
BTW, I e-mailed you regarding volunteer work for the object viewer, I'm very interested in helping if you still need volunteers.

I don't think Australia is little! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Judging from the press release it looks like the RAAF is in? So I am thinking there is a dutch east indies, new guinea, top end of aust maps?

It will be so nice to have a sim with the ability to take part in aust actions for a change.

I would like to see a few guy moving on the aircrafts carriers decks and hulls. THis would add a lot of immersion feeling, killing the impression of landing on a ghost ship http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Same thing for the airfields, some mechanics around would be great.

Cheers,

Goes without saying, surely, but Luthier - I am sure that just about any aussie [including me] reading the forums would be more than happy to help out with any data you guys need to get australian units or maps into the game.

I have a question too.

Will the carrier being scale down? As far as i understand in originalIL2/FB/AEP all ground vechicle, building and ships all are scale down the size. What if you do the actual size for the carrier and using scale down battleship or escort ships, it'll look funny.

Thanks luthier1 for the hardwork! Salute!
