I don't - i've become too used to using the standard sight to seea real benefit, and the bouncy crosshair distracts me more than anything else. Some other pilots say it works wondersthough - i guess it's a matter of taste.

I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I've heard that once you master it,even the most average pilot(like mehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif),can become quite formidable.

Very nice gunsite. If the target is out there a bit it puts the rounds right on them. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I use it when there is a reason to.

It's name as the "ace maker" is hype. It is not a perfect tool. It seems a lot of players feel it's going to instantly paste the pipper on the target and then stay there no matter what the target does.

You still need some amount of skill in flying to use it, it doesn't reduce the need to get into position. The sight will not make the plane get into firing position, you still have to do that yourself.

The sight also can't be used for high deflection shots. It has it's uses but frustration in using the K-14 stems from players trying to use in improperly, and at the wrong times, in my opinion.

I use it in fixed, or fixed+gyro mode. Having a HOTAS certainly eases proficient use of the sight.

In real life, P-51 pilots who had the K-14 were able to change the pipper size (range) by twisting the throttle grip. It's a little hard to fumble with the keyboard and still track your target.

I think the quote a 109 pilot made about the FW-190 applies here, "The Focke-Wulf was clearly the superior plane [to the 109], but after you had flown 100+ mission in the 109, you didn't like it [the FW] very much."

The K-14 is a wonderful gunsight, and I would highly recomend its use to any pilot new to the genre, but, I have been flying for so long, and so much with the iron sights, that I just can't get any use out of the K-14. Even the lead computing gunsights in LO:MAC cause me serious grief when going guns. I am just to used to the fixed gunsight.

How do you activate the k14? I can get the Stang's gyro sight working but Im unsure of the 109's gunsight.

I know what you mean. If you use fixed sight it is easier because your guns do not bounce around ! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The K-14 gunsight is not available on any Bf 109.

It is currently available on exactly two aircraft: The P-51D-20, and the YP-80.

The K-14 is not on any German aircraft, much like a Revi is not on any American aircraft. The K-14 is a feature of those two aircraft in real life, it's not 'made up' for the game, or a feature of any other gunsight. The Germans did have a similar sight near the end of the war, but it saw extremely limited use.

If I have misunderstood, and you simply want to properly view the sight in a Bf 109 because it is currently off-set in your veiw, press shift+F1

Fly with both turned on, fight the standard reticle, but use the gyro to aid in deflection line up angle. I don't worry about getting the dot on, usually have it set out for 400 meters, too far for close in knife fight, but excellent for reaching out to those tender jet engines. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

Once you get the hang of the K-14, it becomes an addiction.

True, the K-14 will not help the clueless folk madly driving their plane about ineffectivly.

But for those who know the basics of maneuvering, and can readily bear the position of one's plane behind the enemy target in a stable manner, and yet is experiencing a bit of lower success than expected due to lacking gunnery skills....... in that case the K-14 is a wonder.

Another plus side; the hit percentage of high closure shots, high deflection shots, mid-range shots, and front quarter shots and HO shots, go up incredibly.

In this game it is much harder to get into a position where the AI ACE allows for a tracking shot than it is to judge deflection. Therefore I find it of limited use offline unless AI is clueless for more than 2 seconds when you are behind it (i.e. usually less than ACE AI or certain LW AI). Online it has more use especially in full real where you can genuinely stay behind someone for a longer time. It is still quite a neat toy that I plan to mess with for quite a while to come!

I find it is a usefull tool. it works just like the pilots said it did..but like any usefull tool you have to use it properly.

Sorry for being ignorant... how to you activate the k14 gunsight? I was flying the P51-20 and press Shift+F1 but the sight was static.

Thanks
Victor.

You will have to ssign a key to it in the controls menu. You will need 5 assignments to fully utilise it.. toggle on&off, increase distance, decrease distance, adjust plane size up,adjust plane size down. I suggest you work outsome combination of alt or ctrl and key srokes you already use or just map the commands to keys that are easily accessible. When you toggle the sight it will go from N-9/K-14 & N-9/K-14 alone/N-9 etc..

Yes I use the K14 but only in Gyro and Fixed sight modes. I can't use the straight Gyro sight...I keep calculating my own lead on the gyro crosshairs.
