Hi,

One idea for a new feture, I miss it in IL2.

Control Tower - human place.

We are plaing IL2 in big groups (more than 30 people). We are using TeamSpeak for voice comunication. Sometimes would be good idea to have one person at control tower for taxi, TO and landing coordiantion. 16 people from one homebase, it is big chaos on the ground sometimes.

Nice idea. Why not place a camera near the tower. Then, with external views, someone can play tower controller.

After being shot down during a coop with my squad I had a go at fighter control - using the extenal views I was able to vector my squadmates into the general area of a bandit so they could get a vis-id. It was hard work but good fun and added another level of immersion.

We tried some night missions,intercepting multiple waves of incoming bombers, with very little success.Then we tried leaving one pilot on the ground,and with map icons turned on,let him direct the fighters to intercept. It worked out fairly good. And the job of directing the fighters was more challanging than you might think.Managing your resources to cover all threats...and keeping things sorted out...who was who...proved to be very interesting.and much like early radar...you could give headings and estamated distance...but not altitude

Perhaps external views are off in our server. F3 with externals views and external view back, no thanks ...

It is much more realistic and fun, manage planes using TeamSpeak only. Pilot must report where he are and what situation is there http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

What would be really nice would bge if there were some way to create a slot for a tower person. No matter what the settings were on the server the tower person would have map icons, externals and thats it. Put a static camera in the tower and walaa!!

Fantastic idea. I hope Oleg is listening, something like this in BoB could be very interesting indeed. You get a view from the control tower, and you get to run a sort of "command and control". It won't be for everyone but it could be fun...

Especially if you have a competitive mode where you've got red and blue with control towers each and with a modeled radar unit direct aircraft around. Could add some more levels of interaction. More work and not strictly flight sim but entirely possible I would think.

Even in cockpit on servers you could partial ground control by having someone in a designated controller plane taxi adjacent to the tower rather than take off. Visibility wouldn't be as good as from the tower top, but it's a start.

Further, if a straffing run killed your controller and it's a DF server, you'd get a simulated pause in control while someone runs to re-man the "destroyed" tower while you controller respawns and taxi's back into place http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Perhaps they could quickly make a new plane type. You could either make it null on everything except the head position, or use one of the extant balloons. Don't bother with a "cockpit" for it, cockpit is "null."

The FM is speed 0, alt 15m at all times. DM is a single pixel if it must have a DM.

Allow it to be selectable by a player.

Done.
