After 2.01 my engine dosn't always start on the first try (various planes). Is this a Bug or added for realism . I hit the starter button again and it starts. Not always, but almost randomly. I don't know about war birds, but the Cherokee 140 that I fly dosen't alwayas start the first time when cold .

Has anyone else experieced this ?

P.S. After about a dozen flames, I'm working on grammar and spelling http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/1072.gif

Yeah. I noticed this with a Spit one day. I thought it was quite cool. Whether it's a bug or not, I still like it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yep it has happend to me randomly for along time before now. I get left started allmost all the time in the P-38 but the right will require a second try every now and then. I sort of like it aswell.

Seems I recall it happening to me very often on Hurri~1, long ago and still does it. It may be a combination of throttle, mix, etc...never looked into it.

I accidently turned off my Spit engine last night, mid flight. I found I could not restart it until I swithched off "WEP".

hehe I thought I was just being stupid when I couldnt get my engine to start. Glad to know Im not the only one. & yea....it does add to the realism. I sure hope it was intentional. =)

I think it's really cool. However, I rarely have this problem. What you need is to give it a bit more fuel and throttle. About 25% power and full rich mixture should do it. Make sure you have both magnetos on!

S!
I can't get an I-16 to start at all when it begins life away from an improved airfield! I consider it to be a built in safety feature.. it knows me too well! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

My bf109f always cranks on the first try, pre- and post-patch. But I have also had trouble starting it when I accidentally killed it mid-flight (fortunately I have learned my mappings better and that doesn't happen any more!)

Yes, I have noticed the same thing.

HawgDawg, you fly a 140? Awesome! Saying that it doesn't start the first time, every time is an understatement.

It happened to me in a bf109 I was like wtf lol. I thought the screen froze up but it finally turned over.I don't know to much about the engines but is there a firing order?

Yep - it seems engine-failure is up since the patch - I did have it too before though - although not that often as now...

I think it's a nice touch...

i was wondering what was going on...

i started all 4 props on the B17.... the #4 engine would sputter, spin..then stop. if i selected #4 again... it would kill the other threee engines ....while 4 ran strong...so..

i turned off #4.. (all engines off now)
startted 1,2,3,4... only once again #4 quit. so i restart #4 again..doing so made 1,2,3, quit again.. repeat..add nauseum..

hit refly. ..same problem..activating the 4th, would stop the other 3..

hit refly again... perfect operation LOL

Yes, I had that problem once so I always start them one at a time. I would start with them all unselected, then select 4 first... start it, unselect 4, select 3, start it, blah blah blah... select all of them again while they are running... and there you go. A matter of fact I have each prop on a seperate joystick button... and feather is a key I know well.

LuckyNed the I-16 (and I-153 I think) needed a special external starter to start the engines. This external starter truck is only available(simulated) on premade bases.

Its a 1965 model and a very nice plane low engine time(100hrsmoh)if it dont fire with the first 3 or 4 ritations of the prop you try again ................... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Ohhhh...Lucky me!
I thought I did something wrong, or my rig was fooling with me.
Yes, me also couldn't start the Spit's engine in just one time (admit, it's a cool feature)

Thanks for the starter info. I found a way to simulate the starter truck at my unimproved strip. All I need now is a wind sock and a way to lean out the side of my plane on http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif takeoffs! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I think that it must be part of the CEM package as it never seems to happen with this option turned off. Maybe we could have other random mechanical gremlins to make life even more interesting.

To add to this:

It can also BACKFIRE.... BANG!
after landing.... engine off then start up again... It can throw your plane sideways! ROFL
Better keep those brakes on http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif LOL when you fire that engine up...

Happened to me without CEM.
