A couple of the 1943 Boeing/Stearman PT-17 I fly.
(for those who dont know this is the aircraft, along with the A-T6, that was used to train the allied fighter pilots flying in WWII)

Nice pics. Thanks. The Stearman looks great and it must be really cool to fly.

Can you buy the leather flying helmets new still? And if so from where and roughly how much? Would make an interesting gift and would look cool riding around on my Norton.

It's only funny til someone loses an eye....then it's hilarious

Funny you should ask about the helmet. You can find them, though its tough. I am looking for a new one, and it is usually a word of mouth thingif you want a classic, but there are a few web sites I have found that sell new copies for around $50-$100

Most new ones are the type that accomidate a modern headset. The best place for these is here:

Then there are the vintage ones that either have a gosport tube, or built in ear cups that are generally not for modern use, but perhaps more interesting as a gift. These you can find on ebay, for a large range of prices. search for leather helmet.

Check out this site (lower left where it says aviation catalog) they have good prices on some nice helmets (though none with the headset cutouts for modern use)
