i wonder why this hasent really been talked about. i noticed there isnt any smoke from teh guns when u fire...on the big guns(30mm+) there are, but not on mgs and 20mm cannons.

i remmeber seeing old black and white footage of spitifres firing and having mostly smoke trailing there wing as they shot. and especially on the color footage from the pasific when that have video of US planes strafing ground target there is alot of smoke pillowing out of there guns.

so since they cant reduce the flashes why not add more smoke?

If you take up an ME262, go to the external
view and fire the cannon you can see that
there is a lot of smoke. You just can't see
it from the cockpit. (I pick the 262 as it
has several large guns so produces perhaps
the most smoke).

The MG151/20 certainly produces a small smoke trail...its not as big as could be but may be a heavier hit on performance.

Aron if u read my post ud see that i said i KNOW the 30mm makes smoke, im not talking about that, im talkign about guns smaller then that.

keep in mind that im not talking about tracer smoke either, im talking about smoke on every shot, like on .50cal there is no smoke, same with .303s no smoke.

every shot should leave a little puff behind so when u fire a burst there should be a little line of smokey dots where u just fired from. kind of like when u hit a plane and the inpact leaves a little puff of smoke behind.

I agree......gunsmoke would be great. But the combination of added gunsmoke and reduced gun flashes would be perfect. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Actually I'd think it would be quite dissipated from the plane turbulence besides the fact the plane is moving rather quick so it would be quite distributed and vanish quickly. It always looks impressive in the old films as normally I've always seen it as they are diving toward a dark ground straffing. Naturally you are either looking at the guns so it really shows or are right behind the other plane so getting the smoke washing back at you flying through the stream.

I'd "guess" if you looked behind even a minimal distance it would be gone.

Billfish...I've seen some movies taken from maybe 100 meters away from a P-47 in a strafing run where there was a large cloud of smoke generated by the 8 guns firing at once. Not a small faint trail of smoke...a substantial cloud.

No doubt there are various atmospheric conditions required for this to happen in such a visible way but its certainly not isolated.

FB I doubt would be able to do this fully in engine...maybe in BoB there will be provisions for this.
