After some well deserved time off I went into a dogfight server to warm up on my skills a bit and it was a no rules server it seemed because we where getting vulched all over the place.

No big deal if you ask me but I managed to take off, avoid the vulchers, gain some altitude and went off to protect my mates on the airfield.
After a little furball all the vulchers where chased off or shot down so I made a wide turn to land.

Then I spot a plane in front of me, flying low, I trottle up a bit and chase it to make an ID on it.
Turned out it was a Bf109 so I closed in for the kill, then just when I am about to open fire I see it slow down, engine stops and the flaps and gear come down, I look a bit ahead and this guy is about to land on our base.
So I pull the trigger and shoot it down and land right away since I was right in front of the landing strip anyway.

Then I see a message in the chat from this guy saying: Your a real hero 322!
I asked what he ment by that and it turned out he wasn't happy that I shot him down because he was landing.

Okaaay....lol.

Well' it's like an unwritten rule. As a sign of courtesy, a lot of FB flyboys don't shoot bandits that are trying to land. Let them get their points.

I speak fo myself here. My personal rule for vulching is (server permitted):

Vulch bandits on take offs only.
Do not vulch anybody repeatedly.
Never vulch anyone trying to land on his airfield.

I don't hesitate to open fire on any enemy trying to land at my base. If he wants me to be courteous and let him land then he needs to limp home to do it.

My server = You hit fly nowhere is safe until you hit refly.

flying online means war.

we dont take POW's do we?

An aircraft landing at an enemy base should be shot, if AAA doesn`t get him first. I can somewhat understand him complaining if shot down at his own base while landing, but at the ENEMIES???

Dumb.

If I see an enemy landing at their own base then I disengage and let him land. Sometimes this becomes annoying in very small maps where the guys fight with me for a bit and go and land and I'm nice enough to let them get away with it.

If they are going to land on an open field or on my own teams runway they are fair game. So well shot down...save your base from the perils of a enemy pilot being loose on it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I won't attack an enemy that is landing at their own base.

But if I am already engaged with a guy and he tries to land, he is meat.

lots of times people get angry anyways because when you are flying a jug and you are engaged with a guy, you can be up to 1km away from him and still be engaged.

I figure if he's vulching then he deserves everything he gets. Vulching in the first place doesn't seem right by me even though I know they did it in real war.

And speaking of real war, what was the Axis and Allies methods at the time? I think only on rare occassion was galantry ever shown.

What I believe and what Ive seen on most servers is that hot landings are fair game especially if hes trying to land at yur base...

Logically, it would be more realistic to shot down an enemy aircraft landing at it own base, than an enemy aircraft landing on an enemy base.

And I've always found this unwritten rule "don't shoot at a landing aircraft" very "sissy" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Once I wanted to change sides for server balance and since I wanted to do in style, I landed my D-9 at the enemies base. If I had been shot down on approach, I would have stayed were I was.

shooting down a plane landing on my own base is ok. but thats the only situation i shoot a plane that has gear down. if you shot them before very badly and they land theyre your kill anway. also i dont shoot burning enemies and chutes.
but im a bit far into the honor thing because of my WW1 simulation time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I love watching the enemy land especially when I have forced him to land on my base...Instead of "kills" I call them "lives". Occasionally I follow enemies back to their own base and just scrape their paintjobs a little while they are landing, wich is quite funny...then I wave and head for home.....I have done numerous paintjobs and most survived. (I used to be an artist U know). http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

Well, first of all he was in on the massive vulching party so I find it rather silly that he whined about getting shot down while landing since he already vulched 2 people taxiing and one that just lifted off, he didn't even had his gear in and this guy shot him down.

So basicly he figured he was allowed to shoot everybody down without unwritten rules and we had to play nice.

I felt pretty good that he was upset about it though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

If you are trying to land when someone is lining you up, you deserve the face plant you get.

Besides, when I am landing in the presence of the enemy, I find it a lot more interesting if they try to shoot me down. Really, all you have to do is force your opponent to overshoot, then land and refly before he comes around again. It sure is a lot more interesting than calling "home free" while you fly straight and slow on runway heading, then whining about anyone who touches you.

And for the love of Pete, if I start shooting at you while you are on approach, you could at least jink a little bit. Sitting ducks are not fun to shoot, especially ones that complain about your lack of ethics.

remind me a funny situation.

Once i was in a server whith a rule "no straffing". While i was dogfighting over ennemy base, the flak killed my engine. I lined with the ennemy landing strip, lower the landing gear, and make my emergency landing. And after that, i stayed 10 minutes in the middle of their strip with my dead engine, and we were all joking about the no straffing rule and the situation. It was very, very funny, i could see them use the taxiways to take off and land.

Well.....in most cases , server rules are published in the mission brief. If you READ and follow the rules posted for the server in question, you should be ok. If none are posted, then the admin will be flying in there also, so just ask him.

LOL http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif indeed!!! Tee, 'face-plant'. Oh yeah. I love chasing someone back to base after they killed me matey and nail 'em as they slow down.
Simply the best! NEVER EVER land under fire! tuck and scoot. Do you think the 109 aces would hope they could turn on the wingtip smoke or call out RTB and land with no hassles?? bwaa haa haa.
I do LOVE this game!
The tantrums I saw in two servers last night were just too much, fantastic. I see those same guys come here and type eloquently about how cool they are, how manly and chivalrous the enitire squad is....yet time after time I see the verbal abuses, the lack of ethics. I guesss they dont think anyone from HP comes here or visa versa.
