Things should start trickling from there soon. Our playable demo is now DONE. It should be available within 3-4 weeks! (we're trying to follow your advice and NOT make it available to close to POTS)

This is in regards to Revelation. Look forward to a playable demo soon!

OMG A playable demo! In 3-4 weeks. Heh maybe I'll get it before POTS arrives in Australia!

Umm Deladra the only person who can change the heading is you. Just click edit (the eraser-folder icon, in the middle at the bottom-right) and you'll be allowed to change the title.

And some people's countries are too poor and haven't had the opportunity to purchase it yet. (Australia)
(You'd think with our Prime Minister such "good friends" with your President he could arrange something a bit quicker. Just one more reason for me not to vote for him!)

Anyway this is gonna be real cool. But I'm thinking maybe it'll detract from the fresh-out-of-the-box feel of a new game, particularly a Myst game.
Won't it be a bit of a disappointment when you open the link chamber to reveal.... "THANKYOU FOR PLAYING THE DEMO."

How cool ... I also had a Packard Bell Legend 486 ... with (get this) a 5.25 and 3.5 drive, a 66mb hard drive, Windows 3.1, 4mb of onboard ram (upgradeable to 20mb with four 4mb 30 pin simms) 2400 baud modem and a 14" SVGA monitor.

I then added a Hercules Dynamite Pro 1mb video card and the Sound Blaster Discovery 16 (which had the sound card, 4x CD-ROM drive and speakers). Also added a zooming 14.4 baud modem.

A friend on mine at the time worked for Broderbund and gave me a copy of Myst (wishes he had never opened that box) and despite some problems getting it to run ... have been hooked ever since.

Well at that time in Arkansas all computers had modems but no one really knew what to do with them. I didn't get on the net until years later, they didn't even offer it. I do have a beautiful memory of my first attempt at the stoneship age, that's when I found out just how tone deaf I really was. Took me forever to get through that. No online cheat guides at that time and no guide books to help. I became severely addicted to it and played it over and over and in my young age even wrote stories about what happened to me afterwards and all the strange worlds I visited with Atrus's help. Poor thing lost it's life a couple of years later in a rain storm, got struck by lightening. Looking back on it now it was one of the more stable computers I have ever had.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Hi,

Anybody know just how big this demo is going to be? I have to guage how much downtime to give my phone usage - still miserabley on dial up and waiting for the Aliant strike to be over so that they can finish the highspeed installation that stops just down the road from my house.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif Darned dial-up ...

There are two, one weighs in at 200MB, the other 600MB. The only difference is that the larger one contains one extra node and some of the movie content from the full game.

600?!?! *faints*

I feel your pain, I live in an area which is probably never going to get high speed. Fortunatly for me, I have it at work. Send me a PT if you want me to send you a copy (I'm in the Toronto area so it shouldn't take that long to get to NS, crossing fingers).

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Actually - THANK YOU for the offer! Check your PT I'll post one to you later. The only other person that has highspeed internet that I know, is the friend of my husbands who did my To D'ni X-pack - he is currently vacationing on PEI and won't be back until the 20th. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Fine time to go on a pleasant vacation http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif . Where I live we are due to have it - we're even on the waiting list - but until Aliant/employees get the strike settled (and who knows how much of a backlog there will be once they do) it'll be NO highspeed for me.

Again thank you,

I'd thought the demo puzzle(s?) were different from the final ones? I'm sure I remember Pat saying something about that. The only thing you'd be spoiling, would be the location and nothing more.

Well I for one wont be getting it - its not the puzzles but just the whole mood of the game. I want it to be fresh and exciting when I open the game.

Thats not to say I wont be here discussing spoilers with you. I don't mind being spoilt textually, just I don't want to play the game if its a demo.

Late to the party as usual ...

Demo? Did someone say Demo? I said I wasn't even going to come to the M4 forum because I didn't want to be spoiled ... okay ... changed my mind. Spoil me!! I was a bit afraid the video demos of TPotS would spoil me (I looked anyway), but I now admit I wasn't spoiled by them at all. The M4 Screensaver is quite tantalizing, but I'm bored with it now. Gimme more. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Oh yeah. I thought my Packard Bell 486 was the bees knees, it being the "upgrade" to my IBM PCjr. I seem to recall having a whopping 64Mb of RAM in the thing! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Every now and then another familiar name finds it's way in here and it's always nice to see them. I'm VERY excited about a demo for Revelation - if nothing else it will get me so wired for the game it'll feel like twice as long to release as it actually is. Apparently I have NO self control and a real need to torture myself ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Check out the thread for the Myst IV puzzles - the "prizes" for the solutions are beautiful behind the scenes pictures, video clips and even a music clip.

Question, If your saying that we are going to have to wait, Then why is the german version of Macwelt geting the demo on the macwelt demo disc which ships out on August 4th?

Was this another special promotion deal for greman mac lovers and the rest of the community gets left out in the cold again?

I wish game companies would quit giving certain mag/news companies special privlages becuase it just make the game players mad that we have to wait. News is news and all sources should have the same info at the same time with no favoritizum. and the community (the whole community) should have the the chance to veiw the game/demo at the same time.

Sure that seems reasonable. But not a MONTH first! Its like we PC users have been SOOO greedy hogging Uru all to ourselves that now we must suffer equally!

Anyways we KNOW the demo was completed, for both PC and Mac, a month ago, (Pat even said on this very forum) but it was delayed due to POTS. OK we're ready now!

I am a mac user and I don't think it's at all fair that GERMANY gets the exclusive. Ubi is leaving out one of their largest markets... this demo should be available online. Also as a mac user I agree that it is in extreme poor taste to leave out the PC users. Exactly how many copies of this game do they expect to sell in Germany? America is the prime market and they should be focused on us first.

Edit: Yes, I agree... nobody should be preferred. Not even Americans... this is an international game and the demo should be available all over the world AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! I haven't liked corporate UBI since the beginning. I love the division producing the game... I will surpport them in their wonderful efforts, but I WILL NOT buy a UBI Soft game other than those related to Myst, produced by CYAN, or the wonderful members of the Revelation team.

Why even bother telling us about the demo from a foriegn computer magazine to an American forum, one magazine that we will probably never be able to get ahold of anyways. Didn't they realize that that would upset the American fans. It is very irritating and in my opinion sloppy promotion. Everyone knows that the American audience is the biggest of the worlds consumers. Most of my foreign friends say if you can make it in America you can make it anywhere. Germany takes up less than 1 percent of the world market, why even bother putting it out there? I would've preferred to have not been told about it.

It maybe a worldwide forum, but there is mostly American people here, besides, the foriegners have their own sites about this too. It doesn't bother me that the fans mentioned it, it just irritates me that they made an "Official" announcement about it to a primarily North American audicience, mostly U.S. to average people who don't even have any way to get ahold of it.

As an American, I have to say that I am not bothered at all that someone else in the world is getting first dibs on something, even though I am looking forward to hopefully having a PC demo available sometime in the near future.

Whether American or no, I am so tired of this "me first" attitude that seems to be so rampant nowadays. Whatever has happened to being able to feel joy for someone else's good fortune?

Although I have very little understanding of the German language and could be wrong, from what I've gathered, the demo being offered by MacWelt is for Mac users only and although it's being offered by a German publication, I also gather that the demo is in English. Any German speaking forumites, please feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

Marketing strategies are aimed toward those that would not normally buy this type of game ... and not the fans. So although we are heard and listened to ... we are not the main focus of marketing.

Hi all,
In a "look on the bright side" moment, I understand why sometimes people get upset, particularly if we are all looking foward to this game, and want a demo right now!

So, let's get back to a happy place. No, it's not a new demo, but have you seen the new web site for Myst Revelation -
http://www.mystrevelation.com

No, it's not a demo, but there are puzzles to solve, and you get your choice of whether or not you want help (I picked help). There are screenshots, short clips of the characters, music to listen to, wallpapers, and interviews with some of the development team - a swell "behind the scenes" look.

Got to go to back to my happy place - heading off to the new Myst Revelation site!

I have just decided to let the demo go, it is just me being my usual obsessive self about Myst, I kinda liked the old days when they brought out games and you were actually surpised to see them out. I think it can be bad to know about a game coming out that you really love, especially if you know a year ahead of time. Just self torture really. (believe me I know!)
Besides as they've already said the demo isn't giving anything away, the puzzles are slighty different than the actual game puzzles, so what is the point really?

I have picked up Doom 3 and it is very well made, very scary and very intense, and I think could win an award for sound alone (Trent Reznor came back for this game too), well at least till Myst 4 comes out, then it could be a close race, or maybe Myst will blow Doom way, can't wait to see.

By the time the Myst Demo comes out the game won't be too far behind. So I am just skipping the demo and I want to be honestly shocked and surprised by the game, like the old days when you didn't know what you were getting until you actually installed the game and began playing it.

Cheers to the people who made the Myst 4 site. *raises wine goblet* It is simply amazing,I love it. I have a question, are the paths in the game that you can take going to be highlighted like that? Would spoil the exploration part I would think.

Accept my apologies for revitalizing an irritable stir on the demo.

No, the paths in the game won't be highlighted. What you have on the website is Flash, which has very different interface possibilities from the actual game.

In the game, what you can do will be indicated by the shape of the hand cursor. When you can move in a particular direction, the hand points. Other hand shapes indicate things you can touch or move.

Mine is moving along. Too bad it appears to be the small demo, but that's ok. It'll give me a reason to head to my EB and get a pre-order disc.

oohhh, it's very pretty, but I wish there was more to do in it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Still the game looks interesting.

Only two concerns, I put the mouse sensitivity to the max, but it still not enough for me. Two, does the Depth of Feild option do anything at all? I tried with an without it and never noticed any difference.

Otherwise, it's a LOT more animated then the previous games. Very cool! Not enough story exposed to get a real feel of the game though. However, it's still cool.

So many great things going on with just ONE room!

I loved how the journals moved, and how I could annotate my own 'KI' journal! That thing was great! (plus the main theme plays while I type in there..heh)

The hand seems to be working really well, for me, and I like the dragging capabilities in there.

Thanks nmzero,
I can't stand download clients. I have the same problem downloading from Gamespot as I did the first expansion pack from Gigex.

As far the demo, it's great. I got very lucky with the fireplace puzzle. After only @ 8-10 clicks it was done. I know I couldn't do it again to save myself!

I like the way you can take a picture even of the closeup notes, diagrams etc -- KI doesn't do that.

And I love the way the books work too... spent a lot of time dragging pages back and forth http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Depth of field doesn't do much inside, since everything is close by, but you should be able to see the effect in the exterior node. Background is blurry, foreground is sharp.

Just played through the demo... the centerpiece puzzle is nice, but I find it kinda un-Myst-like; it's very abstract/mathematical, instead of relying on intuition, observation, and deduction. If it really is the first real puzzle in the game, I hope it doesn't put new players off.

If anyone is having trouble with it: there's a well-known algorithm out there for this type of puzzle... and that algorithm will indeed solve it... if you use it in the right order...

i dont see what was so hard about the puzzle in the demo.

Read the paper in the desk that shows both circle machines need to be on. Flip the switch on the desk and go to the one next to the bed and flip the switch on for that one. go to the puzzzle in the fireplace and you now see red dots. Press the button to close the fireplace and start. The red squares go where the red dots are. Its really easy. It requires no math, just intuition.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif It doesn't work for me. I install it, and when I go to play, it says that it can't find the d3d9.dll. It said reinstalling would fix the problem. I tried that, and it said the same thing again. I spent my time downloading from Gamespot for nothing!

I've put up a thread for download mirrors here. (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=311106333&m=484107695) If you find additional mirrors, please list them. I didn't have any luck with Gamespot's download either; their download manager wouldn't install on my comp.

I had a terrible time with that puzzle the first time through; kept ending up with one square the wrong color. Second time through I solved it in one pass, without having to change any square more than once. If you hit that solution the first time it will be easy, otherwise hard, I would think http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As to whether it's typical, of course they needed to give us a very self-contained puzzle for the demo -- they couldn't have us wandering all over Tomahna looking for clues. I expect that there are all kinds of puzzles in the full game.

Littlebobbie, perhaps it was a corrupted download. Downloading from one of the other mirrors might help. If not, post again -- somebody could e-mail you the missing file.

littlebobbie2 - its most likely looking for dx9 in your system folder. I do not see a d3d9.dll file in my myst4 demo folders and it works here. Do you have directx9 or later (dx9c) installed?

If not go to windows update and it should be there to download or go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en
For the latest Directx

To check your version type "dxdiag" without quotes in the "run" window. (ie....Start-->Run-->dxdiag-->ok)

Delete everything in your C:\Windows\Temp\ or C:\Winnt\Temp\ folder, then reinstall DirectX

If you really want to have the solution spoiled, Google on "lights out" or "chase the lights".

Something to try: stay put where you first arrive in the demo, but look up, towards the moon. Let it sit there for a few minutes. Marvel.

Also, did anyone notice the security camera in the bedroom? I thought it was rather nifty. Wonder if this means, Riven-style, we'll be able to survey the whole age at once and see things we otherwise couldn't.

Any developers listening? It'd be cool if, when the amulet is reading books aloud, the pages turned themselves automatically. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I took my time and inspected the entire demo. There is much to marvel at....including the moon. And I too saw the camera and wondered at it's purpose.

yes... the moon was amazing.

Something else that's very nicely done is the top of the waterfall. These days, it's not unusual for games to have realistic rippling water, if you look in the middle of the body of water; but what I've never seen a game do well is deal with the turbulence that occurs where moving water meets land. Think of Ahnonay, for instance; this turbulence is simply represented by three lines at the edge. It's handled very realistically, though, at the top of the waterfall in the demo -- the water grows increasingly turbulent before turning white http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I figured out the technical problem earlier...I found out I had Direct X 8.0 and so I got 9.0c http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And the demo is sweet, but I wish it was longer http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif This makes the wait for September so much longer.

So, I haven't delved too deeply into Demo postings, but did anyone else wonder about the colored crystals in the Journal and their direct relation to realMyst? what's up with that?

Tried it too. Nothing happens.

But why? Why would they include something SO specific to realMyst?

... unless a similar device appears in Myst IV...

(Many of us have wondered what hidden ages might still exist, undiscovered, in the Rime viewer. Would have been a cool way for them to throw out another realMyst egg/Age code.)

you could be onto something vader. perhaps there is a similar device in Tomanah that allowed Atrus to "spy" on the Prison Ages/Boys the same whay he "spied" on Riven/Gehn.
