Sorry guys if this has been visited before, but I've been away for awhile and may have missed it. But...I want to fly the US campaign in FB, but when I try it tells me to generate it in DCG first. So I do, but when I go back to FB, hit start, nothing happens. Any ideas? Thanks===Hammer http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Hi, Hammer.

Ok, I'm not totally clear on the question. I take it you have DCG, and you are trying to set up a campaign for USA using the P51? There are 2 basic ways to set up a US campaign using DCG ; use DCG in it's external generation mode, or using it to replace DGen.

When you open FB career mode, then select USA, you should see 3 choices: USAAF, USMC, or DCG. Select DCG if you are using DCG in external generation mode. Follow the DCG instructions before opening FB - these are laid out at the site you downloaded DCG from.

If you use DCG to replace DGen, the setup is pretty straightforward as outlined at the DCG site. Then, when you choose a USA campaign in FB, you select either USAAF Fighter or USMC Fighter, and proceed as you normally do for FB campaigns.

Not sure if this helps with your question. IF not, sorry.

NealG,
I think it did. I'm not what you could call computer savvy, but I'll take a look at what you suggested and give it a shot. I do know that when I do open the FB career mode, under US I only get the DCG option. Maybe there's something wrong? Should I be seeing the USAAF Fighter or USMC Fighter choices? Thanks---Hammer

Did you read the fine print at the bottom of the page on the DCG site? It says....

Note: to get an American campaign as shown above, you must unzip the file "DCGWFront.zip" that comes in the IL2DCG zip to your "Forgotten Battles/DGEN" folder. You will also need to get the "Real Deal" American add-on at Mudmovers.com.
This is from the installation instructions @
http://members.shaw.ca/lowengrin/
Maybe that will help.

I looked a little closer and you don't have to unzip that file anymore. You have to check the options to replace DGen with DCG and then you have to select Auto generation for single player career. In my case it took opening and closing the program a couple of times until it worked correctly.

Download DCG from the link above and install. It takes a very little adjustment and you will be flying the American planes (P-40 too)

Hi Hammer and fluke; Yes, it is as inyrpropwash posted....you must have Extreme_One's Real Deal campaign installed for DCG to generate a USA campaign from within FB. It adds certain essential files, like awards, etc., but on it's own it is a fantastic campaign play, so if you want to fly US, get that campaign anyway. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The dcgwfront files are also required, and as inyrpropwash said, they now get automatically placed when you use DCG to replace DGen option.

External generation can be a little tricky, but is the method I now use. There are several steps involved...follow Lo's instructions on the main DCG site to the letter ; there have been some small but significant changes with ver 2.42+ or I would try to link to a set that I posted a while back.

Follow the link above for the DCG and instructions ( thanks, inyrpropwash for the link ), and be sure to link to the forum from the DCG main page. Lo, the author, is always willing to answer questions, and Tailspin has done some great additional documentation. DCG is always a work-in-progress, but Lo is extremely responsive and helpful, constantly updating the program to correct bugs and add features. DCG has it's limits, but is a marvelous addition for FB campaigners.

I'm confused...

I've done the USAAF Western Europe campaignRealDeal, etc, by Extreme_One and it was fun/well done; I'm also enjoying some DCG/DGen USAAF campaign(s).

My condfusion is with regard to the "USMC" campaign option. I know it is set in the "Pacific", but without Wildcats, Hellcats, and Corsairs, what is the Marine Corps option supposed to be reflecting? I understand that the islands are generic, and Not a real Pacific map...I can Pretend concerning that aspect...

However, to the best of my knowledge, the US MarineCorps never flew P39's or P40's or P47's or P51's, and to have to "Imagine" that P40's or P51's or P47's are the aforementioned Marine Corps acft seems to be stretching the boundaries of imagination.

I'm guessing that this "USMC" campaign was done by Extreme_One??? His RAF campaign is Terrific...this USMC one seems a bit ahead of the power curve, so to speak... Am I missing something here?? OR, is this preparatory to the upcoming Pacific Theater Flight sim Addon for FB??? ANd, if so, is somebody out there working on the aforementioned USMC/USN Acft models???

Don't get me wrong, I am not nipicking nor whining...just commenting on the historical aspect. I'll be flying the campaign, as I now see that the Groups/Squadrons being generated are, in fact USAAF units, Not Marine Corps..
I guess I AM confused.

Hi, Wiley!! ( BTW....your guncam site is still one of my favorite daily stops! ).

I can't answer that....I used the reference because that's how I could tell I had everything correctly installed. I never tried to even start one of the USMC campaigns - afraid I am not interested enough in that theater.

I do recall seeing mention in the DCG forum that the campaign is indeed not historically 'ready', but is currently 'functional' in that you can play it.

I kind of presumed myself it might be a harbinger of future plans, and was just there now as a 'prepare the way' sort of thing. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can't believe I just signed up on this board to answer this one but...

I called it a USMC campaign just to distinguish it from the other "historical" campaigns.

Now on to the other questions:

If you want to fly a US campaign in FB, you need the Real Deal add-on from Mudmovers. Then, if you want to use DGC without replacing the in-game generator (DGen), you need to follow these steps:

1. Run IL2 DCG.
2. Turn off the Auto-Generation Mode.
3. Select the campaign you wish to fly by pressing the little "globe".
4. Make any edits you want to the campaign in the editing panels - make sure you select the right nationality/squadron/plane that you want.
5. Generate one mission by hitting the "Generate Mission" button.
6. Run IL2 Forgotten Battles.
7. Start a new FB career with the Nationality you set in 4 above. DCG should appear as one of the options. Select it.
7. Minimize FB by Alt+Tab.
8. Turn on the Auto-Generation Mode. Press the "Generate Mission" button.
9. Close IL2 DCG. The DCG campaign should generate missions automatically from this point on.
10. Return to the FB Main screen then re-enter the Career Mode.

The campaign itself will be called "DCG".

But if you want to fly a campaign using rosters, etc., you need to use the DCG option to replace the in-game generator.

Then you can select any of the other campaigns not listed as DCG (for example: Ardennes 44, Normandy, Germany 44/45) and away you go.

See the bottom of this page for details:

http://members.shaw.ca/lowengrin/setup.html

Note: the DCGWFront.zip file has been integrated into DCG itself and is automatically installed when you set up DCG.

A couple of things to add...

I didn't create the USMC campaign but really like it nonetheless. It does actually say "fictional" when you start it up and I reckon Paul's done a good job utilising the planeset that FB has currently!

Also if you want "The Real Deal" US folder, giving you the USAAF ranks, awards and pilot pics etc... The LATEST version is at www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org) Click the link in my sig.

Thanks for the replies..

Speaking of the Pacific, I finally did a little WWII Radio Entertainment compilation suitable for 1945 missions... IT will be up at my site(I'll post the direct URL link) probably by Monday. It is about 26 minutes long, probably most useful on longer Escort missions once Oleg's Surprise Pacific map/add-on/campaign arrives.
