Hello Oleg Maddox,

I must say I am amazed at IL2FB. A freind showed me how to set my Video mode option Landscape detail to perfect and wow - pacific ocean looks amazing.

Anyway this is a very special request to see if the PBY or (PBN) can be made flyable in the forthcoming expansion pack.

The reason for this request is that my next door neighbour and friend was a RAAF PBY Catalina Pilot during WW2. He is now 93 years of age and I think he would get a buzz out of flying a PBY again (but in a non combat situtation and this time from the relative safety of a PC), whilst he still has the physical and mental ability to do so.

This gentleman saved many lives of Allied pilots during WW2 in the Pacific plus undertook many other types of dangerous missions e.g. after dropping bombs on parked Japanese planes then fly down the middle of a Japanese airstrip/base in a PBY at about 50 feet and let the bubble gunners go to work on Japanese fighter planes parked in horeshoe shaped mounds of dirt next to strip - whilst ground fire erupted around them.

Apart from chasing up some form of recognition/thank you from the American government for many of USAAF pilots this gentleman searched for and recovered from the SWP theater, I think it would be great if you could make the PBY flyable, so he could give it a go.

I am prepared to personally pay or pitch in for PBY to be made flyable for the expansion pack. From what I understand the PBY only requires the panel to be developed?

Please advise if it is possible for the PBY to be made flyable for IL2FB in the very near future, or if you know of any PBY PC add on models that can be flown.

Many thanks

we can change the spawn points to have a plane spawn in the water, but some floating airbases bases "in ships category" along with some shore docking bases would be pretty nice with the pby addition,

I hope we get soem russian german british and japanese flying boats as well

There are a few Seaplane (or pontoon planes http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ) spawn points on the two Gulf of
Finland Maps for this purpose.
However in coop missions you can set both flyable ane AI planes to take-off from where ever you choose. The planes will take-off in a diagonal line at the same time (flyable planes you must time....). Just Move the take-off point from an arbitrary base nearby to the point you wish to take-off and make sure the second point is in the direction you wish them to begin....... Alot of background inter ference here....did I miss anything? S~!

Many thans for your responses. You are true gentlemen.

I have had several e-mail exchanges with Gibbage and he advises PBY is still WIP but getting there e.g. when he gets time away from his paying job to work on it. - What a dedicated dude!

Anyway, will be looking out for updates in Netwings FB development updates as this is where a lot of the action takes place.

Cheers. PS also see these posts

I'm quite sure he does....he seems to respond to overall comments from time to time. Still I'm sure he takes it quite a bit as a relief when people aren't grilling him for info all the time. That said, they need to step up the PR campaign and start telling us what they are doing.

Yes please just think of the missions you could build around a PBY.
Must be able to land and take off from water of course

I reckon it would be great.

I might add that it would be even better if we could have cockpits in all off the planes present in the game, that way we would have an immense diversion of missions that we could actually fly the planes involved.

Bring on the pacific and landable carriers too.

Sod the Pacific!!!!!

GIVE US THE MED!!!

I wanna bomb Taranto with me Swordfish, and fly Mossies out from Malta, Gladiators in the Middle East, Hurries in Greece, 110 in Africa, Italian campaigns, 9th airforce from Italy doing shuttle bomb runs into Russia(possible FB tie-in there http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif).

The Med has character, the Pacific to me is a bit boring. Although, carrier based campaigns would certainly be cool, and bombing the crap outta Pearly Harbour would be interesting, and flying the Doolittle Raid, and if they did a Brits in Burma type thing with Mosquitos flying around, and included the Chinese squadrons flying the P-40, then it would make it interesting, but I would still go with the Med any day, simply because of the possiblity for tie ins to the current FB russian campaigns.

And oh yeah, PBY rocks!!

whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?!

Don't forget that the PBY was quite a formidable offensive weapon in it's own right. It could cary up to 4000 lbs of bombs or torpedos, and it had a Norden bombsight. It will be a joy to fly indeed.

Very true mate. Slow but formidable and extremely versatile.

So we keep hoping and wiating for Gibbage's project to be completed.
