There`s no much left from CEM.Not being able to set the mix is a major bummer.When it was I laways set it up.I almost never use auto prop pitch either.Only when I`m starting a steep dive.Every now and then I`ve flown auto prop pitch and always the energy loss was bigger.

I use trim for optimal landing.

Fights and flys just fine in autoprop.

when flying a 109, I often use auto prop pitch, but never in a combat situ.

Auto pitch is fine most of the time, but optimal rpm for say a G2 is around 2,900rpm. Auto will keep it around 2,700-2,800rpm. Not bad, but having a little extra power is nice.

When pursuing, or egressing, or something like that where a lot of power is needed to get as much speed as possible, then I use manual pitch, and put rpm up to around 2,950. Gives the a/c a bit of a push.

But when in combat, because the engine is very tricky, and the rpms can easily soar if you're not careful, I put it back on auto, so I can concentrate on not dying.

It does certainly suck that you can't set your fuel mix, specially in the gas guzzlers of the luftwaffe. This is another reason to use manual pitch, as you can ease the strain on the engine by reducing throttle, and reducing rpm with it to conserve a bit of fuel (at least, I think this works, haven't really done testing on it, but I do seem to be able to last longer doing this than if I were only on auto pitch).

I'm currently flying the G-10 and K-4 version of the 109. I do have trim mapped to a slider but only use it to adjust for level flight. Auto prop pitch with throttle set to apx. 96% for combat, rarely use wep boost and never use combat flaps in a fight. I often trim a bit nose-down when moving some mud. In air-air fights I mostly let it centered.
As for CEM, I use 100% manual prop pitch for take off and landings, as it grants a better acceleration. It doesn't overrev below 300 IAS if throttle is controlled carefully.
Also I mostly just open my radiators. This keeps my engine cool for those hot fights. Eventually, when I need to squeeze every km/h out of it, I will close them.

i use trim for level flight, and yeah i use cem all the time

I use Auto Pitch for Ingree and Egress but use CEM for Comabat as well as Elevator Trim for High Speed level Cruise.
I also have a Cougar and use Rudder Axis TRIM Locking to Centre the Rudder for High Speed flight as as to avoid Slip/Skidding in Combat as much as possible.
I mainly use Auto Radiator unless I want some short hight speed Burst.

Combat Flaps also come in Handy for getting High Deflection Shots and neutralising concrete Elevator - the Way my Elevator Trim is setup at the moment its too slow to get me out of trouble at high speed (Might need a Course and Fine adjustment).

I also switch back to CEM for Landings with 100% Prop Pitch.

i only use manual pitch on the emil and the G6 the rest of the 109s ill leave it to auto cus with MW50 ill get enough power out of it.

i have my elevator trim on a slider and i dont use rudder/aileron trim i just dont need them

A funny thing happened to me once flying a VEF mission,i accidentally hit the manual pitch button while taxiing on the runway and,naturally,the engine overevved.As you all know,one cannot refly in VEF,so i took off,listened to that whistling nightmare of an engine a little bit and decided ,by the sound of it,that it could still

I use the auto pitch/mixture for the same reason I use elevator trim. It reduces workload.

I trim for level flight every chance I get. Once after climb-out and once on final at the least.

The 109 is in need of constant attention. No ruder trim is a huge pain. Many variants have twitchy aileron control. Plus, typical 109 tactics call for extreme changes in speed and heading.

Some 109 pilots can juggle the engine, the controls, and the enemy simultaneously. For most, worrying about your RPM during a close engagement distracts from situational awareness. Attention span is a limited resource. We must not run out of altitude, airspeed, and ideas all at the same time.

A pilot's concentration is similar to his *E*nergy state. Any attention saved from one task can be invested in another.

yeah, i don t use them,either.
from what i understood in "real life" the german pilots prefered auto(plane performed better).at least thats my understanding.
