Titled 'Dark Blue World'. Sorry if it has been mentioned before, but all the movie posts I've seen never talked about it. Really amazing battle scenes. Story about Czech pilots joining the RAF. Anyone else have comments?

BTW: This is from the same director as Kolya, which won an Oscar for best foreign film a few years back. I saw it and loved it also.

I was hoping "Dark Blue World" would come to Norway, but it has not been found to be worthy.... Cant't find it in the videoshops either.

All this Hollywood crap comes over though..

Hey MIG16!

I'm also from Norway, and I would not wait for the movie anymore so I ordered it from play.com.
I paid NKR 103.34 for it!
Only in english subtitles tho....

Just as an option for you /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

WTE, is it ruined by the Chicks as badly as Pearl Harbor was? I mean, Kate Beckinsale is very very good looking, but I was hoping for more shhot-em-up.

I'm really contemplating buying this movie.

I quite liked the film, however in parts it was a bit hard to get into. Great footage of spitfires in action though.

I liked the part how they were practising on bicycles as their comrades flew overhead.

XyZspineZyX
07-14-2003, 04:24 PM
To think they actually practiced that way....wadda hoot!!
But overall a very good flick.defintely worth the money.
Especally compared to a piece of crap like Pearl Harbor.

And though I've yet to see it there is a very good mini serie's now available on vhs and dvd called A PIECE OF CAKE based on a very good novel about the beginning of the battle of britain including the phony war'sorry but forget the author right now but he wrote a series of books.read this one and you won't know whether to laugh or cry.in the book they fly Hurricanes...But Spits in the movie.

Is one i intend on getting....watch Ebay.

Derek Robinson wrote 'Piece of Cake', he also wrote a sequel of sorts called 'A Good Clean Fight' (I think) based in N. Africa.

Cheers!

Actually, in the latest 'fav WWII movie' thread on this forum, DBW is mentioned a surprisingly Large number of times, along with the older Classic movies. DBW is a Great movie...just the right balance between combat scenes and a dramatic PLOT!!! I include it as one of my two top favorites of all time.

DBW is my fave; a solid and entertaining movie and great warbird flick. (Kicks PH in the butt, but that doesn't take much.)

Can we make DBW a monthly rant instead of bi-weekly? My keys for d, b and w are starting to wear out. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It's the DVD version btw.

I had the movie in my mailbox after about 3-4 days.

Heh, its a "history"lesson for the st00pid, explaining causality like to a 5-year-old. Well some ppl in the greatest nation might need that approach.

DBW is a great flick with a good storyline and no hollywood crap.

Pearl Harbor is a nice comedy tho.

well .... they start off well with a late 1920's bi-plane crop duster that has an electirc start !! In terms of the war BoB and Pearl take place at almost the same time, the Doolittle raids are just afterwards and apparently of the 20 odd zero's lost by the japanese several were lost through mid-air collisions because the US planes were more manouvarble than zeroes.

impressive special effects in places though .. but DBW is much better.

Damn good movie DBW, well worth watching.

Jocko417, Derek Robinson has a couple of good WW1 books as well, "War Story" and "Goshawk Squadron", but I must look for the African one, I have been waiting to hire Peice of Cake on vid theres some classic characters in the book.
