I play offline only to tweak out missions I build for online. I can't have much fun with the computer with out some Human friends involved. Thus the reason I throw LAN paties and have Teamspeak server running 7/24

I play strictly offline and average a couple of missions a day. We have a slow modem but we're used to it. The only reason for cable would be online FB play for me. The additional monthly sum would come out of my pocket and I just can't justify it, I'm really not into it that much. I enjoy it as a game/sim, WWII history and this community but my enthusiasm doesn't compare to someone like TOAD.

I'm afraid, I don't have much choice for the time being. I've just moved to a new place, and I don't have interet connection at home yet... which means offline is all I can do right now.

Thank God we have about a zillion campaigns to have fun with!

I rarely play online these days coz of
fluctuating ping of 56k modem link.
I do miss it tho,
online is where the best fun is.

95% online - offline is for testing & mission building. I like the campaigns though - it's just a little too time consuming for me & I like playing with real people because they are less predictable. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Offline only. I just recently got internet connection for my PC and it's on modem. I haven't even tried online because I assume that transfer speed of modems are so slow for this kind of gaming.

70% offline, the rest online. Although online makes for a much more REAL experience when flown in coops, historical servers you don`t have much control over time or the general situation. You sometimes get good games and others you wait around forever and nothing happens. I often feel that flying online on DF servers actually proves the AI can be smarter than some people! Also it`s a mistake to only ever rely on online for flying. What happens if the NET goes down? Unlikely, but It COULD happen.
So the offline Campaign comes into it`s own:
It`s efficent, there when YOU need it. The AI pilots get on with the job. You follow a good long Campaign with the same guys and things develop logically. AI will NEVER be as good as Human, but sometimes they are better! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Nothing wrong about flying in FB online with a 56 modem. There's not many games better for a 56er than FB, just try to be sensible when choosing a server and you'll be fine.

Im about 50 / 50. I go on line when I can commit enought uninerrupted time. (there is no pause button on-line.
On line is far more challanging, for me that is, but I hate all the time wasted flying around looking for a fight on some servers.
My best time to go on line is 06:00 - 08:00 UK, but the servers are not very full at that time.

Hi,

I don't know where you are flybyil but if you are in (or near to) the UK then try UK Dedicated (www.battle-fields.com (http://www.battle-fields.com)). We have quite a few people on 56k and suffer from relatively few lag issues. We also limit the # of players to 22 which helps.

Cheers,

Offline for me. I like to fly the full missions and campaigns, maybe some of the online campaigns could be good, and I kind of like the idea of joining or forming a squadron for this, but where I live is a pretty remote part of Cornwall and we can't even get broadband yet. So I'll probably look into that in a few months, though I don't deal too well with commitment either. I have tried online and quite liked it (managed to shoot down a Zero in a Brewster, haha), but more often than not the servers have icons on, and I know the argument regarding realism and icons, but for me it's just not aesthetically pleasing to have any icons on. Offline I can have externals on too and know that I'm not using them to try and get one over on the AI. I like to look at my plane on the runway before take off and see what kind of state my plane is in after I've landed, or maybe watch what happens to my squadron after I've been shot down. If a server has got externals on I just think that there will be some tit somewhere flying using them for everything but gunnery.

Another reason I avoid flying online too is all the whining. I see it all over these boards, it seems whatever you do online, somebody has a problem with it. For all it's faults at least the AI don't cry like little girls all the time and accuse each other of using planes that are "uber" whenever they get shot down.

"I rarely play FB online." Im not into df(dethmatch). I prefer a more historical & team based type of play. I fly coops & campaigns online during the weekends with some good friends. During the week however I fly offline.

leadballon's 2nd paragraph pretty much summed up my general view & reasons why I do not fly FB online more than I do now. The aggravation that occurs with the ********s one encounters while online flying just isnt worth it imo.

Off Line during the week, On Line on the weekends.

My squad is mostly Brits and I'm in Hawaii, 11 time zones apart. When it's morning here, it's evening in GB so it works out fine on the weekends. And I only fly Coops and there are lots of those going on the weekends (starting with Ivan's excellent VFC missions on Friday nights) but not much on week days.

Frankly, I like them both equally. On line is more unpredictable but the missions are pretty much every-man-for-himself. The DF Arenas, IMO, are strictly for non-historical Arcade flying. The missions and tactics in Off Line play comes much closer to the real deal and if I fly as a colonel or the equivalent I can influence the course of the battle. The AI actually do listen, much more than humans http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I didn't vote because none of the answers apply.

As an aside, it's one of the strengths of this sim that it offers so many choices.

I would love to play online. Alas, someone has to have the official WORST CONNECTION in the world.

I belive I hold that distiction http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Cable isn't an option as there isn't any in my neck of the Mojave. I could get Satt. but I just won't pay 85.00 and change per month for a marginal improvement to my upload times.

I have tried online several times with FB. I was a slide show joke of a target. Also I don't want to be that guy, the one who likes to mess up everyones rockin game by draggin it down.

I still remember 1st time I logged into a MOH deathmatch. I raised my gun(well, tried to) and fire at someone running by...nothing happened. 20 seconds later I hear my shot. Tried to run forward..nothing. 20 seconds later my dude is against a wall that looked 100ft away when I 1st moved.

Then some 14 year old kid started running around me in a circle beating me to death with his pistol while typing " Man, your connection suks buddy" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Online myself, most all the time. I test missions alone quite often, but usually in HyperLobby so that any of my squad-mates can log into RW and call me out. I played online in Warbirds and, mainly, Dawn of Aces for years before IL2 surfaced, it must be a habit http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

All you 52kers can play online no prop just find a server that got your ping under 200 and you'll be fine.Funny thing I had a dial up and now i have a cable modem there seemed to be allmost no difference in performance when playing on line other than my ping now shows up smaller. So give it a try.

Don't be discouraged by your connection. Read this post:

I do both and I enjoy both..... They both have thier place.... offline you dont get the frustrating lag issues that can cause you to miss shots and crash and such....... online you get the challenge of flying with or against a person..... I enjoy bot a great deal.
