If your the right age and waited every tuesday for Baa Baa Blacksheep it has to be the F4U

Corsair is winning, and with good reason, very fun plane to fly. I think the Wildcat will see the most action, but I voted Hellcat 'cause its kind of a Wildcat on steroids.

Well, the release didn't mention the F4U specifically. It said 40+ flyable planes, then mentioned 11 new a/c (including 4 variants of the B-25). That means, to me, that the game will be: 1) compatible in order to get that many planes; and 2) include unannounced a/c.

The Hellcat because it could turn with the Zeros and was faster too, with a great forward visibility http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Corsair, it can destroy Zeroes, but more importantly its a great ground attack plane http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hellcat had more air to air kills than any aircraft in WWII. The Corsair is also one of my favorites, but people will find out it is a true BNZ aircraft and not very good in a turn fight with Zeros. The Hellcat was better suited to take on the zeros than the Corsair.

I chose the Corsair for the poll. It is my favorite aircraft of all.
I will enjoy flying them all in time frame specific missions though.

As for me, I hope that they do a F2G, F7F, and Sea Fury. F2G is the favourite, though.

Wildcat vs. Zero should be a blast!

It was one of the great things in CFS2, so it will be outstanding in PF http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

The P-38J was actually the first U.S. aircraft to concern the Japanese. The Corsair's speed and armament surprised them. But it was the Hellcat that ended the Zero's reign, I think. Someone will find the numbers, but I recall a 12-to-1 kill ratio and the highest number of enemy aircraft shot down by a single a/c type in the war.

Again all of the above planes will be most welcome and as equally often flown as my bleeding fingers and aching wrists will allow.
That is what makes this sim so appealing - for all of us - UK- Japanese - Aussies - Us and anyone else that loves air combat will have reasons to fly it.
How can anybody resist a Corsair? a Hellcat?
The Midway battle ? Coral Sea? The Mariannas Turkey shoot? Dolittle raid? Drool slobber pant .. Pearl Harbor .. etc.

Corsair all the way, second choice is the Wildcat, it would be cool to have an early 1941 yellow wing skin.

Hmm, Navy fighters? Well, if you say navy fighters give me a N1K1 or better yet a N1K2-J Shiden. No, it was not carrier based, but it was a navy fighter. Think I could do better than Kinsuke Muto and fight off 12 hellcats and down more than four?

compare climb, speed, dive rates and you will find the hellcat and corsair were literally identical planes. similar in dogfight capabilities at all altitudes. they should be about equal in a face off.

Bearcat--considering some of the recent additions to FB, I think it's safe to say that the F8F Bearcat will eventually be in this game.

I'm going to fly the Hellcat for the historical stuff, because that was my favorite plane from _Aces of the Pacific_, my first WWII flight sim. However, if this game starts exploring not-really-in-the-war planes, I really want an F7F Tigercat. God I loved that in _Aces of the Pacific_...

My understanding was that the Hellcat was a bit more maneuverable, but the Corsair was a bit faster?

Like Ken and Ryu from StreetFighter II, they're almost the same compared to other things out there, but that doesn't mean they're identical.

Just kidding...

My vote goes for USMC Wildcats & Corsairs for playing over Solomons and Aussie's Kittyhawks for defending Port Moresby http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (although I doubt we'll get PNG map)

EDITED: aaaah, I forgot it is a thread about NAVY fighters... but Kittyhawks are sexy anyway.

The Hellcat was slower, had poorer roll rate, tighter turn, superior durability, and far superior stall performance.

The Corsair was a hot plane, but it earned 'Ensign Eliminator'.

The Hellcat you could put a new pilot in, and he would do well. The Corsair, was a much nastier beast to fly.

I give nods to the F4F Wildcat because there's something about that squat, stubby, barrel-assed bird that I find appealing. And there's no doubt that the Corsair is wicked fast, border-line unstable, oozes coolness and was flown by men with giant juevos.

BUT...I think my bird of choice will be the Hellcat because it's a no-nonsense, all business with little flash, hot rod of a fighter with just enough *oomph* to fight on par with a Zero.

And remember, the reason why the Hellcat ate Zero's for lunch was mainly because by the time she saw service in large numbers most of Japan's "Experten" were pretty much fish food and Zeros, Oscars, etc. were flown by noobs (not to take anything away from the skill of Allied pilots).

Love to see the Bearcat, Tigercat, Black Widow, but doubtful. So a definate vote to the Corsair, as I remember it being one of my favorites as a young lad. Certainly a favorite of the PTO.

Doubt it'll be all that nooby either. It's been a while, but last time I checked she had a few quirks that you have to watch in order to fly well in combat. As someone said earlier, a lot like the 190. Gonna have to watch speed and turn rates.

somewhere long ago, I read that after the war it was discovered that the Hellcat's slower speed was not correct...the was an issue with the placement of the speed indicator sensors... in reality it was nearly as fast as the corsair.

Can anyone confirm or deny that? I don't remember where I heard it and it was quite awhile ago but never saw it again and it hasn't come up in conversation...might explain some of the Hellcats extraordinary combat record against its good, but not great performance (slow speed, slow roll rate, and slow climb) if it were true.
