here is an idea that probably won't make it into the game but i can't think of anyone that wouldn't wan't it.

i fly online 95% of the time so i'll explain how the idea would affect me.

your on a online scripted dogfight server. you get shot up and bail. you, having bailed out, can hit refly as it exsists already. BUT the AI of your pilot stays in the water via life raft/vest, whatever.
Then enters a friendly flyable/non AI float plane that taxies with in some set distance of the pilot and rescues him. If the plane with the rescued pilot makes it back, no -1 pilot for that side.
It may also be useful in co-ops or dynamic online campaigns.

That's a great idea! Heard it before though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
A rescue mission is always fun, just hope we get a flyable Catalina or something..

I´d love to fly those rescue missions too!!!

These kind of things could really enhance the DF experience (its awesome allready in FB), I saw some post about ideas of reconnaisance in DF marking targets for bomber pilots as well in another forum...

A little off topic here, but wouldn't the seaplane tender make a great "home base" for float planes? I ask this because, as I understand it, catapults can't/won't be modeled in PF.

if planes can start from a carrier, why can't floats start from a tender?

Good idea, however, not realistic. In reality, pilots spent hours, sometimes days floating around before rescue.

Only in Vietnam with devoted rescue aircraft already in the air over South Vietnam or Northern Thailand was if feasable to rescue downed pilots within an hour.

For game purposes, a pilot shot down cannot participate in a battle for at least a few days.

sometimes days or weeks, sometimes just hours...

There is no reason why a limited form of SAR could not be implemented even under realistic conditions.

I didnt realise this was such a "hot" issue. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I simply meant that for DF servers, it don't make sense at all. A pilot could not participate in a battle after being downed.

For campaigns however, great idea.

Well Just adding to the idea, maybe it could be a feature to be added in the FMB for DF servers and campaigns. And maybe limiting the number of Planes available for SAR and a tiem interval, so there would be SAR missions in timed intervals onlly, not a SAR for each pilot downed.

But I belive that it would be a long AI script that would consume some horse power form the hosts computer...

Remember that even 3 or more convoys put some stress on the Hosts PC´S in coops...

It would be a grate addition for On line Wars thow.

Rescue missions have been requested soooo many times but with little response.

Indeed it would add a huge component of immersion to PF and game play - coop missions if search and rescue configuration could be added.

Please see these many other posts and ideas by supporters of this concept.

Yes we would really need the PBY, Kingfisher to make this happen

Hope Luthier and the PF Project Team at least consider it as part of the initial release or subsequent patch. Or at least put us out of our misery of anticipation and advise it will never happen. Then we wont have to bother putting this topic up again for discussion.

Some feedback from Luthier or PF Team would be appreciated.
