Sorry everyone - I didn't have skin download on.

I was seeing some lag during the warm up session, so I kept skin download off. Had I remembered that some players put a lot of time into making skins, I would have made sure it was on.

Live and learn. Next time, mon freres!

My impressions of the last two months revolve around dawns. Pink dawns, grey dawns, misty, rainy and windy dawns, but always dawns; first light. Shadowy Spitfires and quietness . . . . Geoffrey Wellum, First Light.

The US won the battle. It was pretty hard fought battle and it was a good time. We were shorthanded from the start, but we stuck together and covered our wingmen well. Personally, it was one of the best times online i have ever had. GOZR is setting up some more battles with other countries as i am typing this. I believe Germany has acepted a challenge and France wants a rematch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. SO keep your eyes on the forums for up coming battles.

Nice track. How come you (or at least Rall the pilot's perspective in the track) seem to see the enemy before I do. I mean he starts to turn towards something when all I see is empty space. Only a few seconds after do I see the dot.

Darn....downloaded the match and windows can't (won't) open it. May I trouble someone to tell me what program I need to view the battle and where I can get it?

Thanks in advance.

It is an NTRK file. Just download it to your Ubisoft/il2fb/samples folder. Then go in game and choose it from the list of tracks.

I just spent the last hour watching the track. May I say that it was the best dogfighting lesson I have seen to date. Also appreciated the complex engine management demonstration in action. I watched in sheer awe.

Congratulations on your win guys and thanks for a great lesson in dogfighting.

I'm kidding. I don't know. I'm drawing a blank on padlock, but I don't recall that padlock was enabled in the match.

I was running 960x1280 resolution with perfect settings on a 19 inch CRT monitor, which may produce a noticeable dot before your settings allow, but that's just speculation.

Are other pilots turning towards the boogies before you see them too? If so, it might be that your video card settings could be tweaked. But I'm kind of guessing.

I like watching tracks but..

what i don't understand is the mixed planeset.

That just totally and utterly spoils it. Seems like an "all planes for all sides" kinda thing with only the late war planes in.

Much more interesting with a historical planeset.

Or same plane for both sides. Now that will show the pilots out there not the plane. One reason I can't wait to get the dedicated server going again when they release it for AEP.
We like hosting a 1v1 or 2v2 server with same plane for both sides.

For those of you who really like this setup, You should really give the Fighter Sweeps 2 a look. Same basic format on a smaller scale.

Myself or 663rd Clutch would be glad to fly a test match with you.

Link is in my sig at the bottom!

Sorry for the Hijacking of thread. Its a good oppurtunity for the sweeps to get some squads involved.

Same planes for both sides is also kinda arcade.

Dissimilar combat is the nicest thing about a varied planeset. And if the planeset can be kept historical it'll be much more interesting.

what was the dotrange settings on that server btw? I see you flying very high (IIRC 3k to 5k above) and then swoop down on what turns out later to be a plane close to the deck. how can you see something near the ground from 3k to 5k above?

You have a point. There are countless ways to run a match, many of which have merit.

But limited/historical planeset opens a lot of issues. To make it fair, you'd have to switch for a second match. So LW becomes Allied and vice versa the second round. If I want '42 and you want '44, and we switch Allied/LW for each year, it means four rounds. It gets pretty hairy.

An open planeset, imho, pleases more of the intested pilots than limited and is simpler.

To each his own. Personally, I usually get whupped flying Allied planes.

I don't know what dot range was used. I think Zen was the host and maybe he can respond. But I generally was able to see a lot of cons.

I don't recall diving on any distant dots and, unless I was pretty sure the con on the deck was an enemy (like when close to the enemy base or someone is calling for help), I'd be very reluctant to surrender my energy state.

Just got through viewing the recording...a couple of times....WOW!!

Looked as though all pilots seemed pretty well matched for the most part...both sides. Also very interesting to see how most everyone seemed to preserve energy above all else.. until needed. Engine management was also something from which to learn.

I thought some of the plane selections were a bit strange from time to time, but after all, it is a gamehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Overall, quite a lesson for those of us (certainly myself) who are less experienced. I think I learned more from watching this match than from any other source.

Kudos to all pilots who participated with a special congrats to the US victory.
Merci bien aussi aux toutes les Francais..vous etes bien les aviateur exceptionnel.

I would say the most important thing i learned is how to evade multiple bogeys. Very nice demonstration by Rall. Also the no-fuel landing was great. Rall, did you actually know you were going to run out of fuel or that you'd make it to base just as you run out?

Thanks.

I knew when I got hit I didn't have much fuel left. Plus I was so shot up I couldn't continue to fight. So I beelined it back to base. I was lucky.

The entire time I was over the red base looking for stragglers, I was sweating getting a leak from the flak because I probably wouldn't make it back.

I would say that if you can't see a dot at the minimum of 10km away, you should either:

#1 practice BnZ and dot aquiring,
or
#2 lower your settings. My current settings are 1024x768, highest settings, except landscape which is "excellent'.

A big thing i noticed is that AA and AS tend to make dots much harder to see, since they are so refind that they don't really show up as pixels, but smudges.
