This evening I was enjoying a quick game of FB, struggling to tame the beast that is the P-38. During the course of the game, two other pilots had a dispute over a kill. I don't remember what the problem was, exactly. I guess one had shot at the other, and the target had stalled and crashed. He claimed the shooter shouldn't have gotten the kill because it was his fault he stalled. Anyway, the point is that it was a trivial matter that could have been ended with a feigned agreement by the shooter, or better yet had the victim not said anything.
But nay, it wasn't so. The arguement went on for a good 10 minutes, and despite my ability to stay out of situations like this I found it distracting that such a petty matter could drag on as it did. I suddenly had a thought, and let it be known to the whole server. Now, I think the IL2 community is one of the best, for any game, ever. A lot of you probably already know this, and it's been said hundreds of times, but for those who don't I want to make it clear here and now.

War is hell. We have the luxury of playing a game, rather than experience it for ourselves. Don't belittle the memories of those who fell by whining about a virtual death that affects your life in no way.

The two shut up after that.

/end rant.

Some of us have experienced the war... I've lost many good friends in a war - I certainly never belitteled those who fell, those who fought for a just and noble cause, that is.

think 99% of them would start doin teamwork instead of the 'lone wolf' mentality if the shells wizzin by were for real. this sim is as close to real as u can get without gettin roasted in a cockpit. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

I think Mr. Maddox needs to put in the ability to get a "half-kill" just like in real life. The main thing is that your TEAM won.
I like playing on the RCAF_FB server. You get more points for sinking ships and Jabo tactics. It is always fun to rack up points by getting the mission done, and then watching a team of "Lone Wolfs" get pasted.

As a Veteran of 2 conflicts (Panama and Iraq 1), I do hope none of these boys have to see the real face of war.

Nuff said.
