Hi folks. I have to apologise to anyone on line last night. I joined a game, flying a Hurri IIc. Was shot down in flames after getting a few hits on the tail of a 190, respawned and flew again.

I got hit a few times by a Mk1 hurricane in my tail, and lost all elevator control. I appealed for help, managed to get back to my airfield and crash landed.

I was about to respawn again, when my 2 month old son started crying (needed a new nappy, he smelt!) so I had to leave the game.

I really enjoy being online, but I can never manage more than 10-20 minutes cos of the family. Anyone got any similar experiences? If so, how do you get a decent amount of time on line?

Thanks for your patience. I will get a decent go on line at some point. I hope my antics don't annoy anyone.

I'm right there with ya Newshielder! We've got eight month old twins, so it's really hard to find time to fly. I'm usually getting my arse shredded on HL after 11:00 pm CDT now that the kiddos are sleeping through the night. Man, when they were two months old it was not uncommon for me to get up from a sortie to help take care of them. It must have looked funny to others flying online..... a plane just flying off the map never to return. Hang in there; you'll get more time soon.

although i don't have kids - I rarely get chance to have a really good stint on any game without something cropping up which demands my attention for a bit ( eg answering the door, someone needs phone or disconnecting to check no-one has rung etc)
i feel bad from time to time when i can't come to the aid of someone in trouble -but these things happen - i'm sure most people have similar things

Sell your kids and use the money to buy a nice shiny 9800. The fun you'll be having will deftly smother the mourning and loss.

I used to put my baby on my lap and play. However now that she is nine months old she is grabbing for the joystick and mouse. That makes for some pretty erratic flying. A couple more years and she might make a decent wingman

I still try to put my baby on my lap and play, but she whups me upside the head every time. the fact shes 22 now may have something to do with it. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif Now that the kids are grown, my time is my own, which is nice, but sometimes I do miss their innocent days, all 3 of them. Enjoy them while ya can, theyll be gone WAY sooner than you thought possible, and you don't get another shot at being daddy again...../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Well it will take some time! About twenty years or so ( mine is almost sixteen so just four years to go).
The bright side is that computers and sims will be so much more advanced at that time.

SJ hit it on the head right there, the best time to play is well after everyone has gone to bed.

I've been dealing with this for 5 years now. The wife and I worked out a deal where I could get an hour or two of dedicated flying time. Of course I had to exchange for free time for her and it worked out well. Now she's 5 and I get allot more time.

No wife, no kids, no problem. The thing that limits my OL time the most is my ***-bone. I use rudder pedals, so there is no crossing my legs or putting my feet on the floor. I also have a tendency to lean forward so I'm pivoting all my weight on my ***-bone and after about 2hrs it's almost unbearable. I'm sure those of you w/ HOTAS and Rudder pedals know of what I speak.

Welcome to the world of being a responsible dad and husband. I have three kids (all under the age of 6) and a wife that complains I spend more time making love to a virtual P-47 than I do her. Well..err.. you know what I mean. Anyway, it's tough. Like others said, when they crash is the best time to play. On-line is very hard for folks that have very little time to game. Online is very fun but it can be a pain to get started. Joining squads may be tough too if you don't have the ability to joined planned events or be consistent regarding times you can hop out to HL. I know, I'm in this boat. Actually, I did find a squad of guys that are made of folks like myself - a ragtag group that plays on-line when they can. Works out nicely.

I try to work with my wife to set up certain nights that I can dedicate for gaming and other nights where I don't boot up at all but be Mr.Ward Clever. Typically, I can muster two nights a week (4 hour blocks) of pure online gaming. The rest of the week, I"m helping up w/ dinner, laundary, wiping asses, watching kids while wife gets back adjustment from a body building chiropractor named Von Diesel, etc.. Doing this things makes the wife more agreeable to the concept of me gaming. Often times even on the non sanctioned gaming nights, I'll surf out to HL long after I helped the wife put the kids down for the night. Bottom line - get plenty of coffee because you're gonna need it at work! stubby

And dont be afraid to let them grab the stick when they are young. My little girl made her first kill at 3 years old. You should have heard Teamspeak that night
