View Full Version : Suggestion: Airbase Prefabs for FMB / DF spawnpoints

OK here's what I thought of it. I'd like to have some prefabs which one can place on AFs so you don't have to mess around with placing planes, trucks, trees, shelters etc anymore when creating a mission.

How did I get this Idea??
Easy. I've got a DF map which I try to improve several times. Now I'd like to add some athmosphere. For the front fighter bases I wanted to place some of these huts where one can drive in&out exactly where the planes spawn in DF so those are in shelters and have to roll out of them. That would be really cool /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif . Now I've found that there's no possibility to show up those spawnpoints which makes placing those huts a try&error odyssey. Furthermore it would need some 16 players that place their planes there and realigning of those huts until it fits. And that for every base. Impossible. Now I thought Maddox could built some prefabs for that stuff for one the next addons, so one could make some nice AFs quickly /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

Also it would be great to have prefabs for everything. Place some objects, then mark them all (which also isn't possible ATM, only one obj can be selected) and then safe that one to a prefab file which others can load into their maps. So users could also create prefabs and give them around /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

But for Airbases it first would be enough to have some checkboxes in the AF object to choose what the AF should have like static airplanes, cars, AAA (blue/red) and those shelters on DF spawnpoints I mentioned above (Obj 288/305). Of course those shelters would limit the plane selection as they're just ~15m wide.



A completely different thought is to let the mission creator place spawnpoints himself. That would be much easier becuase he could just place some shelters with spawnpoints in it. For the spawnpoint there should be an option for plane placement direction. Then if the creator puts some spawnpoints there (let's say at least 8), the default ones will be disabled. This is also an very effective addition to prevent spawning into other objects on AF. I saw several missions where I couldn't start because I spawned into a static AC which was placed above the spawn area.



A third possibility would be a map in armament screen where the player can choose his spawn location.



I think #2 would be the easiest way to do the job while #3 would definately need some GUI rework and #1 obviously wouldn't come in FB anymore. That's rather a suggestion for the next sim /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .
