Hi. I'll use this topic to express some opinions and some comments on the screens of Pacific Fighters I have seen. I'll also make some requests.

I think that this island, from this day updates, doesn't look very good and it could be much better. Those low resolution textures imho really look bad... I think that for this kind of island the developers should use forest/jungle, like the multy layer forest we have in FB/AEP. This feature would add a lot to the graphic quality of the game..... Now that island looks like the scenery of Flight simulator.... bare terrain with some buildings on it...

Come on, put some polygons on that canopy and cowling! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
We have super computers and huge graphic cards and a some more polygons won't slow down the game so much..... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

http://www.il2sturmovik.com/forgotten_battles/devupdate/030904/akagi2.jpg
... imho textures don't look very good here, I think they are too bright and should be darker.... could we have custom skins for carriers? that way we could paint our own textures....

And now some requests...
Carriers have huge and very long wake trails.... would be that difficult to implement this feature in PF? Long wake trails would help us to spot the carrier. I have read that in real life pilots would try to find the wake trail of the carrier if they were lost over the ocean.....

Will be able to use parafrags with the B-25?

bye

I agree about the island...I disagree about the carriers. They look fine...there may be some of that metalic glare (could be wood too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) on that one shot making it quite bright. The other shot is beautiful.

On the insland...I wonder if something is turned off because there is no vegetation. That seems odd. They have that nice jungle vegetation stuff like they do the pine trees for normal FB maps that I'm sure works quite well on maps like that.

I should also point out that it looks like no anistropic filtering is on...that makes a HUGE difference on the Normandy map's detailed textures and I'm sure it does here too.

Regarding the island maybe it's because a coral island a few hundred yards across wouldn't have any trees on it.

Yesterday I flew from Hong Kong to Sydney, across the Sulu Sea, Celebes Sea, Molucca Sea and Banda Seas. Lottsa Islands down there! Most have dense vegitation nearly to the water. Most Atolls will be vegitated as well, in my experience, if they stick up far enough to not be continually swept by storm waves. This varies a bit by location as WATER is the primary issue, related to the frequency of thunderstorms and showers. There are barren ones, not so hospitable!

My comments on the screens and videos we've seen thus far:

There appears to be no wind modeled in the game, just as there isn't any in FB. So be it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

There apparently isn't going to be a flyable TBF or Kate. HUGE bummer! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

All the a/c we've seen so far (the new ones that is) are just as beautiful as we've come to expect from 1C:Madox. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The way Oleg and Luthier chose to integrate PF into the IL-2FB game couldn't possibly have been done better. Talk about giving us our cake and letting us eat it too!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

There's no doubt in my mind that the closer we get to it's release, the more screens we'll see with more ship types, more a/c models, and better depictions of PF's environment. I'm sure that all the pictures we've seen so far with Corsairs, Turkeys, and Hellcats on Lexington's deck were merely an expediant due to the Lex being the only US Cv finished so far. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

No wake to speak of, and dust clouds on the carrier decks are a big bummer, but I'll get over it.

I've seen amtracks in early screens. I'd sure like to know if we'll also get LCVPs, LCIs, and maybe even LSTs. This would be very cool. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've got to agree that the apparent omission of a flyable TBF, TBD or Kate is really disappointing. It's going to take away a really big part of the game I was looking forward to, namely torpedo bombing (wasn't the emphasis on bombers?). Having said that, the aircraft models themselves all look marvelous.

Yeah I agree. The torpedo bombers are the main part of this game. I'd rather see the fighters non-flyable than the torpedo and dive bombers. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Vote for long wake trails, more torpedo bombers, dive bombers....

I bet TBF and Kate will be flyable very soon after release, if not in the release... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Now, the real issue: the island looks really bad. Very same thoughts as Joker, here. Maybe the setting were really low or something...

Can't remember the post or the poster, but I made a similar comment and was corrected by someone who was at one of the shows flying a beta version with an AI Avenger....he asked if it would be flyable in the final release and was told "yes".

I feel positive about it at this point and that list I keep seeing over and over is probably not very accurate.

From what I have heard from one tester of PF, expect to see the TBF in the release of PF.

I'm just looking forward to some carrier action to be honest, I'm happy at the way things look, let's face it, it basically still FB and that was a improvement on IL-2 (though a large one).

Overall, thanks to the 1C team for letting us have this game!

Les Izmore, an old friend, hope we see him here.

Less is more when it comes to the furrballs on the wheels and the prop wakes when flying over the sea at low level. As an old timey seaplane pilot I have never seen anything like that! The only thing that even comes close is a supersonic jet in afterburner, which can leave some roostertails. Even the 747 leaving old Kaitek Airport in Hong Kong would only flaten and wake the water on a heavy departure.

The torpedos should not leave any visible bow wake! Enough of the vapor trails of the bullets as well. I know these are bird-in-hand effects, but perhaps it is time to leave them behind.

Les Izmore, long shall he live.

Yeah, the dust effect can stay, but the rooster tails need to just go away. Just turn them off.

Looknig at the TBF video, the drop heights looked OK from the time the torps had to fall. In the screen shots they looked way too high. My guess is that we are dealing with a 'FLAT EARTH' here, which misplaces the horizon, a bunch! Hence the illusion of being way high when comparing to the 'horizon' line.

Yeah, one must NOT expect PF to be a new sim! It was meant at first as a purely expanded FB: FB with new contents, basically. Then Maddox Games jumped onboard and it is now to be an FB enhancement, thankfully. But still FB it is!

Anyway, the prop wash when planes start on the deck is hilarious, and I've seen the spray on the water behind the carrier when they do, even if the plane is several meters above sea level! I bet they're not blind though, and it won't make to the release.
