I have heard from many sources that the
Tempest was unmatched when regarding
Max speed down low.
I just wondered,
what was its top speed at sea level?

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

I think the V did 400Mph at sea level and 438 at 17,500 while the II could do something like 406mph at sea level and 442mph at 15,000ft.

The prototype reached 477 m.p.h.

Tempest I believe is the fastest fighter at sea level compaired to anything else in the game and I think that includes the La-7 (but by a hair only). At 20,000 feet its overtaken by the Spitfire XIV but only by a little and then it dramatically drops off after that.

Tempest V is certainly a low altitude fighter and complements the Spitfire XIV nicely.

Depends on version, early ones about 370 mph, later ones about 390-400 mph (for Tempest V).

Its certainly among the fastest at SL, if not the fastest. IMHO only the LA-7 and LA-9 are truly a match for it in level speed, and they share the same characteristics, ie. scary performers at ground level, much less impressive at altitude.

"We've got the finest tanks in the world. We just love to see the German Royal Tiger come up on the field".
- Lt. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. Febuary 1945.

"One day a Tiger Royal got within 150 yards of my tanks and knocked me out. Five of our tanks opened up on him at ranges of 200 to 600 yards and got 5 or 6 hits on the front of the Tiger. They all just glanced off and the Tiger backed off and got away. If we had a tank like that Tiger, we would all be home today."
- Sgt. Clyde D. Brunson, US Army, Tank Commander, February 1945

The Fw 190D-9 was quite fast aswell, but it wasn't the fastest. With C3 fuel the D-9 could reach 386 mph at SL. And a specially boosted D-9 could reach almost 402 mph.
Max speed with B4 fuel and MW50 was 381 mph. And this is what we get in-game.

When it comes to aircombat, I'd rather be lucky than good any day!
