Or do the british cannons make much more damage?! I just have the feeling! Is that correct?! I mean, a britsh 20mm cannon should make as much damage as a german 20mm cannon?! Or are they more explosive?! Anyone else have this feeling?!
Cheers all!

Its you http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Nah seriosly, i was flying Spit Vb last night got attacked by a 109 G2 and hit only once. My engine was toast and oil all over. Nothing wrong with the german 20 mm if you ask me...of course, other times you might need to hit a fighter a lot to bring it down...which seems to happen to me whenever i fly the 109 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

I'm the other way. I have always had trouble landing hits with the Spit cannons, but when they do hit they seem about the same in a destructive sense. Comes down to cannon convergence, range etc... I guess.

Cheers,
CrazySchmidt. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The british 20mm Hispano cannon is more powerfull than the german 20mm cannons because of higher muzzle velocity and a heavier shell.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I find those Hispanos to be pretty effective and seem to be a much better shot with them than others: sure yellonet has a point.

if yellonet is correct then there is nothing to argue about! I have also heard that Hispanos are better but thought that had to do with the cannons not jamming etc etc...

Both cannons do about the same amount of damage, what i can see, but spits have two cannons.
It depends also where the round hits. sometimes the edges of ailerons, rudder and elevators may absorb the most of the blast.
And my conclusion so far is that the round is more effective if hits the wing directly from an angle ( not the edege). Remember also that a plane can look unharmed but all controlls can be out and pilot damaged. This is due to a limited visual damagemodell, not all hits will show even if they do damage.
-------------------------------

I will write a longer post later on my own findings of the effects of damagemodell and visual damagemodell.

Could have been lag or packet loss. Playing online and playing offline seem like 2 totally different sims sometimes.

I experienced no visable lag at the time and the explosions hitting the aircraft looked good but could have been packet loss I guess.

Often when I`m shooting at an aircraft online and I find it seems to take a lot to go down, my thoughts are generally in this order:
1. That`s a tough plane!
2. He`s evading away from most damaging shots.
3. I`m only hitting non essential areas.
4. I`ve may have hit something important, but the effects haven`t shown up yet.
5. My convergence could be too far/short.
6. Packet loss/ lagg causing problems.
7. My aiming/shooting is **** today!
8. Is he cheating? Using some kind of hack?
9. Agh! i`m on a noob-invulnrability, unlimited ammo server! Get me out of this hell!

It`s very rare that I jump on a forum and complain that an aircraft`s a joke because I couldn`t instantly shoot it down online. In fact I`ve NEVER done it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

The British 20mms in FB are more powerful than the German ones. I made a test mission where aircraft shoot at the tail fin of an B-17 on the ground from close distance. It usually takes 22 hits from the German cannon (MG 151/20) to remove the tail fin, but only 15 hits from the Hispanos.

So the relative strength at short distances is 1 : 1.47 in favour of the Hispano.

At longer distances the relation might be even more in favour of the British cannons as their velocity is higher than the Germans' and FB seems to underrate the explosive power and overrate the velocity.

The fact of the matter is I have tracks of getting kills in the game online with the german MGS i have NEVER HAD A PROBLEM GETTING KILLS,you might see it as complaining,I see it as voicing my concern, whats makes it weirder was I was awarded the kill when the guy landed, there was very little visable damage to the spit after i reviewed the track, maybe Im making a big deal out of nothing if so my apoligies.

Just saying it again visual damage is not the same as actual damage. The 109 has a very advanced visual damagemodel particularly in the wings with big holes and stuff. I dont know if Spit wings can get holes like that but that does not mean the damage is less. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Try it yourself, take a 30 mm cannon shoot at 90 degrees angle at a P-51 wing for example...if it doesnt come right off you might only see small caliber marks and some blackened areas....Now take a Spit and try the same on 109...if the wings doesnt come off you will likely have big holes in it.
