Just blowing my own horn...feeling pretty good that these days when it becomes necessary, I can routinely land most acft with just one wheel down...and pretty smoothly at that! It was not that way a year ago...

So when Diogenes perceived that he was greatly excited and quite keyed up in mind with expectancy, he toyed with him and pulled him about in the hope that somehow he might be moved from his pride and thirst for glory and be able to sober up a little. For he noticed that at one time he was delighted, and at another grieved at the same thing, and that his soul was as unsettled as the weather at the solstices when both rain and sunshine come from the very same source.

Yep! Here's what I was able to manage LAST year(When I didn't totally crash/die in the attempt)...admittedly, this landing was in a thunderstorm with Lightning flashes, so I might have been a bit distracted:

Nice, I've never had a wheel missing.

If I remember correctly in IL 2 somtimes the wheels wouldn't lock and you had to wag the wings to get them into place, although I don't think I ever had to do that either as I used to crash land a lot in IL2 as it was much harder to land/takeoff in a 109.

Either that or I got better but I'm sure IL2 it was more difficult. So if the gear did collapse I wouldn't have noticed lol. I was no where near as into the game as much as I am now. I was on 56K then and online is where FB really grabbed me as I still hate IL2/FB AI in campaigns too much to dedicate much single player time to it.

i did this in a stuka the other day, didn't even realize i was missing the right strut til the plane tipped rather quickly toward the right as i begun the rollout. i dragged a wing, but didn't damage the engine at all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

in FB as far as i know the one wheel will lock when you lower your gear at speed over 350.

Managed to put a 262 down with just the nose wheel. I'd lost the rest of the cart on takeoff I think! I only found out after checking the outside view after grinding to a halt in the middle of the runway after returning from an intercept! I don't think I've hit Ctrl+E quicker.

That's nothing. I can land on the canopy with the wheels up OR down http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Back in the IL2 days was flying a I-16 when I hit the wrong button and shut off the engine. I seen a nuetral airbase down below so i could restart the engine. Well my glide down was good till I went to land and knocked off one of the wheels. I stoped with out messing up my prop restarted the plane and firewalled the throttle and took off again and finished the mission.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif First; good landing, OberstWiley!

All it takes is a bit of practise http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Losing a wheel and then attempting to land is'nt hard...it's MUCH harder to lose a wing (or a part of a wing) and THEN trying to get back to the deck unharmed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Once I landed the P-39 and broke the main undercarriage, just the nose wheel left. Just for the fun of it I pushed the throttle all the way, gathered speed and took off!

The way aircraft handle if properly landed on one wheel is testament to the excellence of the physics in this game.

I was mentally applauding Oleg the first time I brought an aircraft in with one mainwheel.

I've done this in a Stuka once or twice.

Previously known round these parts as mikeyg007

Yeah in the Stuka that's something else. I love knocking the wheels off on purpose because I hate flying around with the gear down http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif it doesn't feel natural.

I've landed a 262 with no gear at over 540 kph before. Takes a long time to stop, and you have to be gentle, but i can be done.

Also, i remeber one time i was beeing shot at in my Jug, and i could not figure out why i suddenly slowed down so much. I accidentally hit the gear button a minute later only ot get the "gear dammaged" messages. I asked the person who shot me, and he said my gear just suddenly dropped. 90% he hit my hydraulic lines, causing the wheels to drop, as i've don this to AI 47s before. Just didnt know it could happen to players.

Nice landing.

I had the opportunity to try it last night online for the first time, a result of my IL2-generated lack of respect for flak. My run for home turned into a deadstick landing with no left wheel about half a kilometer from the airfield. It didn't turn out nearly as well as yours did. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I came in a bit hot and lost the other wheel, the right wing, and bent the prop, but hey, any one you walk away from is a good one, right?
