Check it out. This is probably the best idea I've seen in a long time.

http://www.xfire.com/xf/index.php

I'm assuming that FB/LOMAC support will be available shortly.

if it was me who was being asked the reply would be that Hyperlobby has limitations

the community will never move tho

its to in-grained with HL for there ever to be a mass migration

I use ASE (All Seeing Eye - check it here : http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2/index.html ) which does support IL-2, IL2-FB, and IL-2FB+AEP.

Its shareware (21day period to try for free - then its $15/year or $30 for a lifetime license).

It also lets you enter servers like warclouds that currently run at hyperlobby (hyper's provider is blocking me because my ip is over 200 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif ).

I play Call of Duty, COD has a feature that has eliminated game lobbies for me (in that game) click the 'online' tab and refresh, everyone with the game online shows up. sort by pings, names whatever, its perfect, I get into games with lower pings ever than I do via HP. I'd love to see something like this for FB.
HP is cool, but its a hit, no doubt on ping.

Try ASE if you didn't already HawgDog... it has the lowest overhead of any lobby I know resulting in far better gameplay and ping - even the hyperlobby games run smoother for me now http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thats the coolest part...

They start you out with a "test friend" untill you get some buddies added.

The way it works is cool. Your friends lists get added to your list as you go.

So, if your squad uses it, each member only needs to add one other member... the rest will be added automagicly.

Its friggen cool.

FB is on the list of games to be added soon.

I look for lowest ping. First and foremost. Low pings make good friends.
The all seeing eye is too scary for me, isnt that the one with no "uninstall" option. Had it once, kept freaking out my zone alarm and the cookie monster

Thanks Baldie for the post, this is way better than Ubi or GameSpy.. and faster too. Got tired of playing Ghost Recon and MOH Spearhead on GameSpy and Ubi because I had to wait five minutes sometimes just for the lobby to load... then a few more to see pings go down to reasonable levels.

Its strange though how they have games that have their own built-in servers.. like ST Elite Force 2 and Call of Duty...

Xfire is pretty cool but it doesnt support FB.....yet. I have requested it several times. If more ppl request it mebbe they will add it. We need to make our voices heard in order for them to support it.

Been using the non-payment version of The Eye since the day it was released. Instead of being called a 'Trial' version as it is now called, it used to be called a 'Unregistered' version. Seems like nothing, but there is subtle diff there. 'Trial' implies that you will stop using it after a certain amount of time whereas 'Unregistered' meant you preferred to use the no-frills free version.

Can anyone plz tell me what xfire offers that Hyperlobby does not?

I think hyperlobby is the only good place to meet players and interact. However, when it comes to launching games, user interface, and functions aswell as performance Its not very good....

So why should I use xfire?

I have to disagree - ASE is shareware with a trial period of 21 days. During those 3 weeks you are licenced to use it. AFTER that period you have to either Register (read "pay for it") or stop using it.

I for one do like the shareware principle. It lets me first try it and if I like it well then I register so the program can be made better (the people who make these programs have to earn a living too you know).

If he didnt want ppl using it he would have added a kill date for it like Cam2Pan does. He never has tho & I appreciate that. He could have done that long ago but he didnt. Gets some respect from me for that.

A clarification regarding ASE

It is free for trial.
However, when you upgrade, here is what you get:

Upgrade to the full registered version:
Get Unlimited Buddy Lists
Priority access to Scanner Server
Advanced Buddy searching
... and more!

I have ASE and registered it month's ago and it rocks! If you can't get into a server that is full just wait and it will hit the server with requests until a space opens up.

ASE is by far the best browser out there it supports sooooo many games and you can find friends that aren't even using it by searching servers by player name. It's great I found my flatmate playing Raven Shield (secretly) and shot him up http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif!

We use Xfire for Americas Army and Call of Duty. Very nice indeed for games with lobbys like those two where it can take forever for your buds to find the same game you have. I posted a request in the Xfire forums to support flightsims but we really dont need it since its easy to find the game you want using Hyperlobby.

I recently switched to ASE as well. For some reason it seemed to me that things were laggier using HyperLobby since AEP. After using ASE for many months I forked over the cash for the lifetime license. I figured the guy deserved it.

the ASE feature that knocks on the server door till it lets you in is great. it allows you to surf the web, get something to eat, without sitting there and hitting the reconnect button all day until it lets you in
