I am not even remotely as well read as some of the other folks I see in these forums so I thought I'd pick your brains and see if you can explain this to me: What I have read seems to differ with my experiences with regards to the bf109. On one hand, most of the materials I've read suggest that the bf109 was becoming rather dated by the mid-late war period. This does not agree with my experiences in this game--the bf109's later variants appear to stay competitive with its contemporaries. Am I missing something here, or are these sources inaccurate? Thanks.

The Bf 109 were very good in early war (E, F, G-2), suffered mid war (no big improvements from 1942 to 1944 in G-6) and was very capable again in late war (G-10, G-14, K-4), where it didn't matter anymore.

For more detailed answers read a couple of books. ;-)
