Butch2K,

Couple more questions for you about the Bf 109G-6/U2:

1. You stated that production started about November 1943 for the Bf 109G-6/U2 with original GM-1 Nitrous Oxide boost system at Erla. You also wrote that production was carried out until about August 1944. Given that the decision was taken to convert those aircrafts to MW-50 and conversion kits were ordered about March-April 1944, were the aircrafts being produced in the factories up until August 1944 still equipped with GM-1 apapratus then converted in the field to MW-50 use, or were they equipped with MW-50 gear right at the factory after the conversion order was given in March-April 1944 ?

2. You also stated that about 273 existing aircrafts/airframes were converted to Bf 109G-6/U2/AS standard in that period in addition to new G-6/U2 aircrafts. I assume that you are referring to those aircrafts being equipped with DB605ASM engine ? What engine or engines did the original new factory made G-6/U2 came with ? DB605AM ?

Thanks

I'm not butch, but I'd say a fresh G-6/U2 had just a normal DB-605A engine with a GM-1 boost system added.

Butch,

Is this Bf 109G-6/U2 "Field Mod" as ordered in April 1944 ?? I was under the impression G-6/U2 also had taller tail assembly ?

Caption from diagram:

Bf 109 G-6 modified from GM-1 to MW-50 power boost. Please note an extra hatch under the filler hatch between fuselage frames 3 and 4. The small bulge more under the MG 131 bulge is for the cockpit air compressor of the G-5 version; as is the small air intake on MG 131 bulge, too. A part of the air vent is for the generator cooling. These features are also very common in the unpressurized G-6s and G-14s.

AFAIK the late /U2 aircraft were produced with the light alloy tank and MW-50 directly from the assembly line. It's possible that there were still GM-1 equipped aircraft in those block though.
The /U2/AS with GM-1 were still of interest against very high flying recce aircraft. While the G-6/U2/AS were most probably for the greater part retrofitted with MW-50 as middle/high alt fighters, the G5/U2/AS would have kept GM-1 for their very high alt intercepting duties. THe pressurised cabin being of great use at those extreme altitudes.

Well deserved bump for a 1944 Bf 109G-6/U2 "Field Mod" with MW50.

We need some for the pre-Normandy & Normandy BoE campaigns for starters.

No MW-50 equipped A-8 except for a couple of protypes.
G-6/U2 with MW-50 hack is equivalent to a G-14 with MG151 canon.

thanks for answer butch, from docavia it is said that gm1 boost was used too on a8 and give it his max speed at 6200m:684km/h

i don't understand how exactly gm1 was used, because in game it's said not to use under 8000m,but in this book nothing said about that except a 60km/h boost for 8 min a 2700tr/min for a a8 and as max speed is at 6200m with it lol

also it is said some a8 from factory out with fueltank without protection of 140l of mw50boost

so for the g14 we must expect mg151/20 for playing normandy scenar hehe

Well, that is exactly what I am saying:

Maddox/1C should "mod" the current G-14 with the MG151/20 motor-kanone and make it available in may 1944 adding it to the current 109 roster as "1944 Bf 109G-6/U2 Field Mod (MW50)"

Please ?
