Anyone got a link to some info on flying the He111 in FB...?

The manual is pretty useless... I've worked out how to start engines individually and take off but when I switch to the gunner positions I can't take control for some reason and I can't make head nor tail out of the bombsight.

Cheers,

Hux.

There used to be an exelent online guide to the HE111, but the site has been closed for sometime now. If anyone knows where the content is located I'd be interested too.

Here is the one that used to be linked to the Mudmovers site: http://www.bkbhq.com/users/race/Air%20Force/Stewart%20HE111%20Guide.htm

The graphics and descriptions are not exactly matched to IL2 FB but I think it still has useful info.

All the best, Don

To take control of the gunners press "a" (without quotes ofcourse) to turn the gunner autopilot off.

Yep... I'm there with the gunners now.

The problem remaining is the gunsight thingumy.

I've worked out how to look down it and I've mapped keys for "auto-level" and increase/decrease velocity and altitude.

I hit auto-level and I look down the thing, set the velocity and altitude to match my height and air-speed.

I wait for bombsight display to come up and then wait for the target.

When the target comes into view I hit my weapon 4 button and shout "bombs away!".

Only thing is the bombs land about 2 miles away from the target... i could have done better just guessing.

I'm doing something wrong here but what?

This is what you're looking for:

http://www.mudmovers.com/Sims/FB/fb_he111_bombing_guide.htm

Oh, by the way--at least for me--if I do not keep the plane straight and level, the bombsight overlay/graticule disappears from the viewfinder.

Thanks...

Bombsight Angle... that's what was missing.

I'll give it a shot!

You don't need to use manual release for your bombs with the He-111 - What you're looking at is a state-of-the art all german-made bombsight WITH a handy dandy mechanical computer for calculating the correct release point. Get the beast flying straight and level, then dial in your TAS and altitude. Using the angle adjustment, find your target and flip the computer on. Just set it and forget it.

Using the bombsight is a breeze, and if you aim short you'll hit at least something. Trimming the plane to fly straight and level is the tricky part, even without having someone trying to blast a hole in your plane. I had to give up the bomber missions, trying to take out a bridge with minimal detail at 640x480 resolution is pure torture (you have about 5 seconds to aim).

Here's a more detailed guide by WWSensei:

Sensei's guide is good, I also recommend checking it out. If you prefer hands on, stop by the 380th BG dedicated server and ask for Tug. I'd be happy to step you through a few high alt bomb runs.

Happy Bombing!
