I can't express how COOL I find this. But I bet I don't have to, most of you probably feel the same way. 1C MADDOX RULES!!!!!

Anyway, I do have one res. I DO hope that it is compatable with FB, but the problem is this.

A good deal of the air war in the pacific centered around navagation over excrutiating long distances over nothing but water. If the same little maps are used in this sim as are used in FB (keeping small online DF maps wouldn't be a prob), it would cut out a good deal of the immersion factor for those of us that would like to take off from a carrier, fly for a couple hours to some island, bomb it (or escort bomber there), then navagate back to the carrier.

Nuff said. I don't want to appear to be a complainer. Just a bit concerned over this ascpect.

I can't wait to take my wildcat off of a carrier agian though...woo hoo!!!!

Well for those FR folks they will have to suck it up and figure it out..... just like anyone else who wants to fly without icons. I dont think anything should be added to make the navigation any easier than it is now..

With nothing but ocean, I can't see any reason why the maps can't be painfully huge.

?huh?

Let me make my point clear

1. I want realistic LONG FLIGHTS
2. I want the option for the navagation to be as realistic as possible (i.e., no icon/minimap path etc.)

My post was just an expression of the hope that I have that I and whatever pilots I can get to join me, will have the option to fly long, over ocean, missions to an island/battleship group from a carrier/island, and try to find my way back like they did in the old days.

Not sure what your post meant....

Indeed long flights without map icons and waypoints will be very interesting...
For example when you have 2 fleets on the map somewhere, you send a patrol looking for the enemy fleet. Whoever finds the enemy first sends in a flight of dive or torpedo bombers etc... Whoa! Can't wait http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

To this end, as much as I would love the new pacific IL2 to be compatable with FB (and I would)I would rather it NOT be if we could get a more realistic map of the entire area (along with optional small on-line df maps), realistic winds and progressive weather (like in CFS3 the progressive weather not wind http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif), and things that would make navagation more realistic (i.e. magnetic declination as someone on another forum has mentioned)

In fact, I want to see a gargantuan map that is only open ocean--no land at all.

i would have to say im excitred about the idea but if it is not compatable with AEP i wont be buying right a way if at all. i plan on going to BoB when it comes out and just baught AEP and have a ton of work a head of me to get profeciant at flying the P-38.Ii would like to see it compatable mostly because i would like to see IL2 become the all-incompassing-to-end all-big-mama-jamma of flight sims.

Hey BMs! I'd have to agree with TinMan. I hope they have huge maps. It shouldn't be a problem. But It's also important that they change thier current weather models. The current weather models are fine for flying at high latitudes away from the sea, but I'd want stronger, more gusty winds and cumulo-nimbus clouds if I'm in the Pacific. I'd also want them to redo the FM at high-alts and fix it for the entire FB series. It'll suck if Ilya adds a B-29 later on, and we find that it's FM is porked at 10000m.

No - I want to have to fly for excrutiatingly long hours on each flight only to be come hopelessly lost and off target and have to ditch in a virtual sea - only to press "refly"
and start all over again on a realistically looong flight over a realistically vast ocean, only to get realistically lost again and have to ditch again....mmmmm full real

another vote for big maps and long flights, but the guages have to be visible (no gunsite blocking the view) and have to work correctly for those of us that have taken the time to learn how to navigate. getting lost happened IRL should happen in game to.

Well, if CFS 2 can have huge Pacific Theatre maps, I see no reason why PF can't.

Well, except they will have to make them from scratch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

All in agreeance say "I". Weather needs to be more advanced and altitude fixed as well. And one more thing, the atmosphere needs to be more hazey and land and objects go blueish in colour the further away they are to the observer.

Yep, and I want to hunt for subs and task forces. I want recon planes to call in sightings over vast distances so we can move our carriers into strike range and attack.

And I want to fly those recon planes over those long distances.

It's already here in FB. Why wouldn't it be in PF.

JR_Greenhorn::
quote:
In fact, I want to see a gargantuan map that is only open ocean--no land at all.

We have infinite ocean maps now. On maps, lets say Crimea, fly south and there is infinite ocean beyond the south map edge (fly north and its infinite green flat).

In WordPad you can open mission text file and change aircraft and surface unit waypoints to be thousands of kilometers off the map edge. This actually works well. Just you can't see the mission in FMB but only in text file.

You could make mission in FMB and later add some digits to all unit waypoints and the mission will play out far beyond map edge. Beware that you can set negative values for waypoint coordinates, thus allowing you to play out a mission hundreds of kilometers west or south of the map. Also, all waypoint coordinates in mission text file are in meters ~not~ kilometers. This can trick you BAD. This technique is not for the average mission builder, however. Its very tricky and you cannot test it easily...even mini~map fails to let you follow aircraft and ground unit icons that are off map.

Oh yes. There should definitely be no nav aids on Full Real.

Let the FR-whiners suck on that one. I fly map-and-compass in coops where required, externals just makes it prettier, not easier.
