Hello Everyone,

I'm creating this thread for the troubleshooting guide since the post is somehow buried in one of the threads and most of members cannot find it. Please note that those are proposed solutions and unofficial workarounds/steps and might not fix your issue, so this is not a replacement for contacting customer support, and also note these steps didnt come from Ubisoft, they are put together by me since most of them are standard procedures to diagnose and fix most problems.

So the first thing to do is to contact Ubisoft Support, link is in my signature.

Now while waiting for a reply, you can try to follow these steps and see if any would fix your issue:

Table of contents (Click on any item to jump to the corresponding section):

1.Game Crash/Freeze
2.Artifacts, Graphical Glitches And Missing Textures - Fixed in 1.21 Patch
3.Sequence 7 Escort Mission Game Freeze When Done - Fixed in 1.21 Patch
4.Sequence 5 Mission 1 Issue - Fixed in 1.21 Patch
5. WW1 Crash When Doing Leap of Faith off The Bridge
6. Desync Loop when replaying missions

The base step is to make sure you have installed Latest Graphics Drivers from Nvidia/AMD before you proceed, always do clean install for drivers, however if the game is still crashing after installing latest drivers, then try the following:

1. Game Crash/Freeze

1. Verify Game Files either from steam or UPlay depends on the version you have. (this is the most common reason for crashing due to corrupted files), to do so:

Delete ACS.exe if necessary before verifying files as sometimes UPlay fails to replace the file (due to file being in use or lack of permissions, so delete it to guarantee that you will get the latest file from Ubisoft Servers)

a. Steam Version (if you bought the game through steam) : Go to Library, right click on the game and select properties, click on Local Contents tab and press "verify Integrity of Game Cache" button.

b. UPlay version: Click on the game, click on properties in left menu, then press "Verify Game Files" Button.

Note that sometimes you need to do this more than once, so verify --> let UPlay/Steam repair, rinse and repeat until UPlay/Steam comes up with no errors.

2. Disable AV/Anti-Spyware as sometimes it conflicts with the game.
3. Open Start --> Run--> type Msconfig --> Startup tab and uncheck everything there, restart windows afterwards.
4. Close/Disable any OSD/Overclocking/Recording softwares (Fraps, MSI AfterBurner, Gigabyte OC Guru, Shadowplay, Raptr ....) before launching the game. (this is the second common reason as some programs inject a D3D hook which causes the game to crash like RTSS even in stealth mode)
5. Backup your saves then delete them, they are located here (Default install location for UPlay):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\[ACCOUNT_ID]\1875

And make sure to turn off "Cloud saves sync" in UPlay settings to prevent the cloud from restoring them.

6. Go to [ACS Installation Folder]\Support\Software folder and install DX and VC++.

7. Windows 7 Users Make sure you have .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.0 installed. for 3.5, go to Programs and Features and click on Turn on/off windows features on the left, select .Net Framework 3.5 checkboxes and then press ok, for 4.0, download it from Microsoft website.

8. Backup folder "C:\Users\[WINDOWS_USER_NAME]\Documents\Assassin's Creed Syndicate" then delete it (this folder contains files for graphics settings and controls mapping). if it didn't work, then launch the game, let it crash and go to the mentioned folder and edit AC.ini in notepad, find WindowMode=2 and change it to WindowMode=1 or WindowMode=3, save and close the file, then launch the game as admin.

9. if you have your CPU and/or GPU Overclocked, then disable OC and run them at stock settings, reset bios to default settings if necessary.

10. if you have custom resolution and refresh rate defined in NCP or CCC then default it to native resolution and refresh rate, also if you have Nvidia Surround or AMD EyeFinity then disable and let it work on one monitor to see if thats causing the issue.

11. Disable SLI/Crossfire.

12. Run the game as Admin, if from steam, exit steam and then run steam as admin.

13. Disable UPlay Overlay and voice chat from UPlay settings.

14. Uninstall Raptr if you have it installed.

15. if it didnt work, create a new Administrator account in windows and try to run the game from that account.

16. if you tried all the above and the game is still crashing, there is a possibility that BIOS settings are wrong or your BIOS is outdated and needs updating or reset, so first try resetting your BIOS to defaults, if it didn't work, then update your Bios to latest version.

NOTE: Make sure that your primary GPU is the discrete one not the iGPU aka Intel HD, this is especially for laptops.

If none worked, try reinstalling UPlay (download it from uplay.ubi.com (http://uplay.ubi.com) - top right of the page), but before that make a back up from UPlay folder here (Default installation location):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher

if it didnt work, try moving the game to a different drive (UPlay Version only NOT STEAM), to do so:

1. Copy the game to different drive.
2. Uninstall the game from UPlay.
3. Restart UPlay as Admin and click on Games --> ACS -->Download button.
4. When it prompts you for install location, choose the path you copied the game to in step 1.
5. UPlay will discover game files and download/repair necessary ones only.

Move Game on STEAM to a different drive:

1. Cut and Paste the game folder to the drive you want to move the game to.
2. Uninstall the game from steam.
3. Install game from steam, now steam will prompt you where to install/download the game, select a drive or folder then click next, DONT CLICK ON FINISH, note it will create a folder called:

Steamapps

4. Go to Steamapps folder and create a nested folder called common.
5. now cut/paste the game folder from step1 to Steamapps\common.
6. Click Finish on Steam installation wizard and steam should start discovering Game files, once finished, it will show you download finished.
7. Restart steam as admin then launch the game.

if nothing from the above worked, roll back drivers to 3-4 versions earlier ESPECIALLY for GTX 860M, to get an earlier driver, search for it in Guru3d.com or use google search with specific driver version to get a direct download from Nvidia.com website (NOT GEFORCE WEBSITE) because if you went to Nvidia Website and choose All Drivers it will show you only the latest one when doing the search

if nothing worked, download a program called PorcessMonitor from Microsoft sysInternals , add ACS.exe process to the filter and exclude all filters except File and registry access and see if there is an error about accessing Registry/File system as it might be related. And also it worth your while to check UPlay logs, they are located in Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\UbisoftGameLauncher\logs.

2. Artifacts, missing textures and graphical glitches

EDIT: Issues fixed with patch 1.21, but some few users are reporting that they are still having this issue.

For Nvidia Cards:

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1331161-AC-Syndicate-Graphical-Glitches-Missing-Textures-and-Artifacts-Workaround

if the above didn't work, then edit C:\Users\[WINDOWS_USER_NAME]\Documents\Assassin's Creed Syndicate\AC.ini

Change this line:

UseDriverWorkAround=0

TO

UseDriverWorkAround=1

Save file, restart UPlay and launch game and see if it fixes your issue.

However, if you still have this problem after doing these workarounds, please make sure to report this to Nvidia Support as well as to Ubisoft Support (link is in my signature).

3. Sequence 7 Mission 3 Issue

EDIT: Issues fixed with patch 1.21

workaround for now can be found here:

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1334074-Bugreport-Sequece-7-Mission-3-and-Sequence-5-Mission-1?p=11157804&viewfull=1#post11157804

4. Sequence 5 Mission 1 Issue

EDIT: Issues fixed with patch 1.21

workaround for now can be found here:

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1334074-Bugreport-Sequece-7-Mission-3-and-Sequence-5-Mission-1?p=11157804&viewfull=1#post11157804

5. WW1 Crash When Doing Leap of Faith

This is caused by setting "HBAO+ Ultra" in graphics settings (Credit to Anykeyer for figuring it out), workaround for now:

1. Set it to HBAO+
2. If step1 didn't work, then the other workaround is to wait for scripted airplanes to pass and once the sky is clear go and do the leap of faith and it should work.

6. Desync Loop When Replaying Missions

Workarounds for now (Make sure to report it to Ubisoft Support, link is in my signature) :

Hello , I can,t run Assasin Creed , Syndikate . Every time it fall with an error message that acs.exe stopped working . It happens always in the same place . After the first two videos. When you try to start again from the stored position , the game gets stuck with the same message in the same place ( at the beginning of loading ) .

I have already read several procedures and remedies , but unfortunately no help. I download the game several times and deleted it , deleted also stored position , had always played authenticate as an administrator , but nothing changed .

YazX, thank you for all your trouble shooting work. I'm going to follow your recommendations and hope one of them works. I also hope that Ubisoft comes with a proper update for every one who payed for this game because it cannot be that software piracy works above legal purchases.

I have an amd r9 290 and what finally worked for me was complete exiting out of AMD gaming evolved and disabling plays.tv.

I am also getting the asc.exe has stopped working and whenever I click on close program I get a blue screen of death, are other people getting a blue screen of death with the asc.exe crash or are you getting a crash to the desktop?

how do I know if uplay downloads files when verifying them? When I click verify files it takes a while to go through all the files then it tells me that "all game files have been successfully validated" does this mean I should keep validating until it doesn't search for the files? basically how do I know when i should stop verifying the files, when I click verify files and it doesn't bother to look at the files?

i get a crash to desktop. windows 10 here.

if it says all files successfully validated it means nothings wrong with the files.

i just found out i have this problem now & am verifying. i will say i had this problem with ac4 as well and ill just say it was uplay that was the cause of the problem in that instance. not sure of the case here.

there seems to be some problem with uplay, at least on my build of win10 (i never got out of the guinea pig program so i have the latest build which is very recent). AC3, Liberation, Rogue, Unity & Syndicate all crash before i see a launch screen. the crew crashes right after the launch screen. watch dogs & AC China both start (havent tried playing). i did reinstall uplay, just flashed my bios to the latest, & other games dont seem to have an issue. am running an overclock thats never caused a problem which is the last thing i can think to try...will post back if i have success there. but either way imo uplay is causing some kind of conflict. havent tried any kind of "workaround" yet.

update to say i finally think i found a fix, step 8 worked for me:

Since you've already tried all of the steps that I would have suggested the next step would be for you to contact Ubisoft Support (https://support.ubi.com/en-US/index) for more assistance.

I bought AC: Syndicate last night, and I've been trying to get it to boot up fully ever since it installed. The game files have been verified on both UPlay and Steam, and my computer specs are above the minimum requirement.
Would anyone know how to get this fixed so I can play? Should I get a refund? I'm willing to mess around with files although it does make me anxious.
