I own IL2 forgotten battles and would like to buy Ace expansion pack and/or combat over europe expansion. Which one should I buy and install first? Can both of them be installed over forgotten battles? can I play IL 2-FB in the FB lobby if I install Combat over europe on top of AEP? Please help me!

If you have any addittional info that might be useful for me, please tell...

Buy AEP first. It is a must have. Personally, I would buy Battle over Europe, not combat over europe.

COE and AEP work fine together.
Not sure if the order makes a difference but, I'd put AEP on first then BOE.
It is recommended to do a clean install of FB before upgrading to AEP.
When I got AEP, I wiped my entire disk and got a definite performance increase. Defragging is a good idea too. And, if you can, put the pagefile on a different disk.

Battle Over Europe (from JustFlight) can be installed over FB1.22 or FB2.0 (last is Ace Expansion Pack).

The order in which you install does not matter.

Because 1C:Maddox holds the licence etc. of the mapmaking software, JustFlight had to give the extra maps in BOE to 1C:Maddox, and they published them in patch 1.22 thus making the way free for BOE to incorporate the maps.

BOE will add a western campaign to FB (no extra planes - no extra objects). There will be a patch out soon for it incorporating the new planes that AEP adds.

AEP will add 29 new flyable and several new AI planes, and new objects to the game. So I would recomend to buy AEP. There will be a patch out soon (in x * 2 weeks) with even more flyable planes. AEP is best installed over the original FB (V1.0).

Thank you very much for your help!

I have still a few questions. Can you (theoretically) install IL 2 FB and many expansion packs over it (Battle over Europe, Combat over europe, Operation barbarossa, Ace expansion pack...) and get IL 2 FB work with all the features from all expansion packs?

Ace Expansion Pack is an official expansion from the developers of the original game. Provided it is installed in accordance with the instructions you should have no problems.

Battle Over Europe and Operation Barbarossa should both work when installed after AEP and shouldn't interfere with each other.

I'm not familiar with Combat Over Europe, but if it's just a mission pack it shouldn't interfere with either of the others.

Unlike other sims I've owned, FB has been patched and updated regularly since it was released. When AEP came out, many of us backed up our skins/missions/campaign files and uninstalled FB (with patches thru 1.22), then reinstalled the original FB and installed AEP over, then added favorite skins, etc. That provided an up-to-date V. 2.0. BOE and CoE install over this easily. And there are a half dozen utilities that work with any combination.

Now we're told new patches are coming for AEP and BOE.

The point is, this sim seems fairly robust and flexible. Still, it's a good idea to back up the files you want to keep before adding any update or mod. If things go wrong, you can always uninstall/reinstall (assuming you kept all original disks). Have fun.

So I can install whatever expansion I want over AEP? And the unofficial expansions don't nullify each other, but add the missions etc. from both expansions to the AEP?

Yes. You can install any or all of them - and they will all just add to the game - Ace Expansion Pack, Battle over Europe, Operation Barbarossa. The last two don't add any new planes though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

There are many FREE campaigns and missions for download here :

Combat over Europe is an old game and has nothing to do with Il-2 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
