When was the last time you paid tribute to the God of trees?

I usualy offer one sacrifice a week. This includes one pure white dove, there can be no deffects.

You'l have to build an alter though.

There's a bunch of different types of trees. The ones you find randomly placed around the landscape are only present at high detail levels. If you go down a notch or two they disappear. So its quite unfair if someone running at a lower setting were to collide with something that isn't there...

The trees in the cities are actually present on the landscape regardless of detail level. That and the fact that they have a collision box around them means that you can run into them...

It`s clever. Oleg obviously wanted to have lots of trees for realism, but having them all actually `there` with a `colision detect` box probably used too much PC CPU resources. So what he did was have some trees that hurt and some that don`t. This way, you get lots of trees with little slowdown even on a low spec system, yet you cannot risk flying through them all because some are actually really `there`.

I like it it means you have to avoid all trees just in case- As you would in real life.

i think BoB will have considerably higher detail terrain, i mean its a whole new engine, EVERYTHING is going to be higher detail, aircraft, ground objects, flight models just compare ground objects in BoB with the ones in IL2 and youll see. course, it also means everything takes longer to make

The trees in the cities do have collision boxes, and they can trap ground vehicles when the vehicles should be able to go around the trees but they can't if there are several trees together blocking the way in the city.

FMB Object Destruction slider can be used to eliminate all trees in cities...nothing left not even rotting logs (works for Pacific palm trees too). But the city buildings get rubbled too. However, I believe the city trees can be destroyed at only 50% destruction percentage, leaving most buildings intact.

Maybe you just hit one of those kite-eating trees Charlie Brown is always running into...

The main difference between the collision and the non-collision trees is tha fact, that the non-collision trees may be turned off. They're graphical goodies like high-res-skins, or something similar.

So, if you want trees with the option to be hidden, client-side, you HAVE to make them non-collision. Otherwise flying low would kill any pilot flying on lower settings and he never knew why.

The trees in the area around the villages are objects that belong to the city. Their skin-resolution may vary, but they're always there.

That's a great explanation Capt.LoneRanger...

you forgot to tell:

You can set the number and diversity of non-colision trees in the file conf.ini check
Forest=
setting - range is 1..3

Well, it's not so difficult to fly around the trees in IL2, so, just keep above them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif
