The screenshot that caught my eye was the large scale shot of the Midway island map with Kure atoll. Man, those are two SPECKS in all that ocean. We will have a new challenge we never had in FB -- navigating to our target. Imagine you're flying in the Midway island strike team, not knowing where Nagumo's carriers are : where do you start to look, with no landmarks for reference ?

And with only 20km to the map horizon, good luck spotting any islands in clear weather. In poor visibility I can understand.

I need to start a thread on expanding map horizon to 30+ km like they say Perfect Mode allows but I can't run that.

I hope that they are going to chabge the color of the water to a more greenish/light blue color, as that is a realistic color for atolls and the pacific in general. The shots shows the boring FB atlantic water.

LOL, Skii_

Another indication of the size of the map you posted : I had to hit the PAGE DOWN key five times from the top of the map before the two islands appeared on the screen.

check this map

Kure Atoll is this small dot west of Midway.
I wonder if Tanaka Transport Group, which was sailing from south west can find its place on this map? And it was attacked by b-17 from Midway

Maybe with all the water we'll have now, horizons can be expanded without our FPS suffering.

Luthier said that the draw distance for ships will be increased, so maybe that applies to the terrain too.

From the zoomed out picture it looks like there's no airbase on Midway and only in the very zoomed in picture is the runway visible. There IS an airbase on Midway in this game right?

They turned off the airport icons so we can see the island.

What I want to see is the grid scale but they ain't showing that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

If you found navigating difficult over land in the game, you'll certainly find it even more difficult over open water without any landmarks. Better have your pencil and paper ready to record your movements, or chances are you may not make it back home to your base.

Why wory about the color of the water on the maps. Maybe they should all be in B&W, just like the ones the pilots had to work with.

I'd also like to see Lat/Long grid lines. And maybe matching printable maps that we can have on our "kneeboards", to chart courses with.

I think he's referring to the actual ingame water, not the knee-board map water.

necrobaron,

Well I hope so. LOL

As for that pic, I'd say it was probably done with a polorizing filter, which would enhance the blue of the ocean by reducing the glare on it. (I know about this as a photographer) Since the photo is relatively recent (2001), and it's been abandoned (has been ruled OFF LIMITS for envirnmental reasons)

Bluish/magenta tint comes from the high UV light levels in the ocean enviroment, and its highly recommended to use a filter that cuts those wavelenghts. However took that photo didn´t use any.
